A lot of Americans say foy-yay as well, but people think they sound pretentious. 😂

I’m French so I perfectly pronounced most of them with French accent 😅

I've lived in Scotland for 20 years and 11 years in south africa before that and I've never heard Leftenent, it's always been lieutenant

I just got two! After listening to him I am doubting my speaking skills. Is it only me? 😵

Some of these are French, and the British tried to replicate the French pronunciation. Coup de grace was right, charcuterie was OK. (I would not press the vowel between t and r so hard, it's practically nonexistent: shar-küt-ri.) But foyer is actually not "foyé" but more like "foáyé". The "foá" in the beginning is pronounced similarly to the French word moi, except with an f rather than an m.

American and I got more right. The French one got me, but I was able to name both brit and merc for the foyer

Pronouncing them in French allowed me to be correct. 🤣 Since I'm not from the US or the UK, not sure who pronounces how, I usually mix them up.

What’s crazy is we don’t pronounce Lieutenant wrong on purpose. So it’s not common. I have heard the British way, but I thought they were separate. If you go to translate, they pronounce it as lieutenant as well. So it’s not our fault. Also we don’t say foyer, we say foye as well. Especially as a realtor I never pronounced it as Foyer.
