Double Your Broccolini Harvest!

This works well for Broccolini but I wouldn't recommend it for broccoli!

Most things that work well for flowers will work for brassicas like broccoli broccolini broccoli rabe and rapini because the part of the plant we harvest is the flower bud before it opens

All plants produce heaps more if you top them. Sometimes I'm really surprised when people take off too many side shoots from tomatoes, instead of topping them to produce more yeald (get rid of excess water leaves of course!)💦🌱🗝🙏

So, at what point will decapitating it not double the stem. For example, if you top the brocolli three times, will it still double, or will it be degenerative?

You can do something similar with bok choi actually. Just force it to lean over....every node will produce a smaller bok choi head....on both sides actually. No cutting necessary. Most plants will do this truthfully. Just need to experiment. Doesnt matter if they're supposed to grow straight...growing at an angle or topping will cause it to widen and throw out more shoots or fruits to ensure production of seed to carry its genetics on.

I got broccoli rabe and purple sprouting broccoli. Would this work for either of those? First time for either. I have a hard time with brassica pests and am planning on making a few row covers. Will they get more than 3ft ish?

I don't know if the garden store mislabeled it but my brocollini is giant in comparison, I keep watching like a hawk for any of the buds opening to harvest it but I swear it swelled in size the last few days so I keep putting it off to get a bigger head. Does it lose flavor letting it get bigger/should I go ahead and not wait much longer if I'm happy with the size now?

I don't do it like that. Broccoli ...will send out side shoots. The whole plant will send out flowering shoots everywhere. And I can harvest everyweek and meet my needs for broccoli.... sometimes it sends up new growth from the base.

Dont do this. Let the main brocoli stem come to head. You get to harvest one big brocoli...and then after that the plants will produce brocolini. Dome people get one or two rounds of brocolini but if the conditions are right you can get three harvest of brocolini from it. Dont dorget to collect the mature leaves. Cook like collard greens or as he said use like kale.

Unless you just prefer to have brocolini explusively toping it when young doesnt make sense
