It was intended that the song "Mr. Kiss,Kiss, Bang, Bang" (Japanese fans' name for James Bond) be used for the opening titles of Thunderball. However, the producers wanted to have the title of the film in the song. Here's the never-used opening title sequence theme song "Mr. Kiss, Kiss, Bang, Bang" performed by the exquisite Shirley Bassey.

Shirley has this magical, perfect and completely satisfying vibrato. I don't know what they were thinking, this was perfect.

The instrumental version of this that they used in the film (as well as the soft jazz instrumental arrangement of Goldfinger- I believe the track is called "The Best Place In Town" or something like that) has always been my absolute favourite piece of Bond music!

Thanks for splicing the song to the title sequence. KKBB works much better than the "Thunderball" song.
Am always amazed when looking at Maurice Binder's title sequences for the 007 films -- they remain stunning even now, decades after he did them. They are truly works of art in their own right.

I'm guessing the line "He'll soothe you like vanilla" was the line that killed it as far as starring in the opening credits go...

There's also another point in this opening sequence's history: an unused Thunderball theme by _Johnny Cash_ of all people. A great song in its own right, but didn't quite feel like a Bond theme. It's available if you want to listen to it.

Dionne Warwick has also recorded this, I prefer her version.

I much prefer the dynamic Tom Jones "Thunderball" theme.  I also like the instrumental version of "Mr. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang" better than the awkward-sounding vocal version.

Isn't the instrumental opening of this song from Dionne Warwick's version?

Good version but back then had fast credits but could had been played at the end of the film . The lyrics are better than Tom's version even though it's over the top ( like Weird Al's song ) .

actually an Italian Journalist dubed oo7 Mr. Kiss kiss Bang Bang. And \ i know it's not your fault, but Kevin McClory's name has no rights being there at 2:32. He did not come up with any of the characters or even the plot. he wanted to make a Bond movie and underwater. the only people who came up with Thunderball are Ian Fleming, Jack Wittingham and Ernest Couneo. McClory didn't come up with the plot or the characters yet he won the rights.

Dionne Warwick's version of Kiss Kiss Bang Bang is better. I think the producers made the right choice with Tom Jones. Bassey's version is too slow.

Except for the club where .007 is trying to hide out from Largo's henchmen and where Fiona ultimately dies, the song had no relevance to the overall storyline as far as I could tell.
