A DECADE with the OP1 // Worth it 10 years later? #SHORTS

Ten years later and the OP1 is still one of the top selling synths worldwide. Here's a quick run through of what it's actually capable of doing. Synth engine, sequencer, crazy FX, sampler. An all in one slayer machine!

I hope this points you in the right direction.

Shoutout to (at) alliebrowniest (Instagram) for the animations!

It’s crazy how an electronic can be over a decade old yet still have a modern appearance that rivals its contemporaries today.

I just got one this past Christmas (after 5 years of drooling over one), and paired with the Microcosm..it’s my favorite dynamic duo!!

I think Louis the child uses it as well. I bought this thing for 800$ thinking I was being impulsive. Best investment I have ever made. I learned more about music with this machine then any other. The workflow is unique, incomparable, but mostly it’s my favorite. If you are used to only using a computer DAW, I recommend trying the OP-1 out. It’s a very refreshing way to make music and I’d even go as far to say that it helps expand your sound and teaches you to think outside the box. I will be buried with my op-1

I think if teenage engineering hadn’t released the op-z, the op-1 would be worth it, I’ve owned two op-1s awhile ago, sold them, and just got an op-z and am blown away with it. The only complaint I could see is the synth engines, but I’ve already got analog/va synths I like better than any op-1 engine I would rather use anyway and with the op-z sequencer it’s easier than ever to do so. The op-z has had a steep learning curve but once I got a feel for it, the screen-less editing is much faster and feels much more like an instrument. I think the op-1 is better for beginners who do not have any other gear to sequence or need the visual feedback of the op-1 to learn synthesis. For most of us with too much gear already, the op-z is an invaluable tool. I think they will be valued higher then the op-1 when more people comprehend its abilities

Hey, I realized you're one of the few youtubers who actually responds!

I have a question, I'm starting out my music journey with an OP-1 and I was wondering what kinds of other gear is your favorite to work with the OP-1?

Thanks! :D

Hi, Liam. Love your stuff. I'm new to the OP-1 field and I want to love it. I'd love to pay you for a virtual tutorial, and that'll help me decide if I'm going to keep this thing. Devices a fraction of the cost of the OP-1F have a basic functionality that the TE is missing, and that's sustain. All my Rhodes samples (including the stock 'suitcase' in the sampler engine) cut off at the tail, and I just want them to ring out and decay naturally. I've tried adjusting the envelop, and no dice. Just drives me bonkers because I want notes to ring for ambient stuff. Please let me know if you're up for hire to teach me a few things. Thanks!

This thing is responsible for the EDM golden age of 2010-2015. Thanks, Swedish House Mafia for using this.

Have to say, I think it’s a noisy toy. It’s tactile and so cool looking, but it’s so frustrating to use unless you just sample it into something else. Honeymoon period was over so fast. I had one for a year and sold it.

A whole decade and no other companies have ever thought to make a proper move on the form factor and functionality. Jesus come on.

No it doesn't, it just means that nobody else felt it worthy enough to copy. They let them have that market
