I love how you guys say 'Landsknechtsschwert'. Lots of love from Germany (and HEMA practitioner). Everyone there made beautiful weapons!

Well, it's something about Germany and building weapons that really seems a great fit.
The Leopard 2 is one of the best of its kind and throughout history, Germany had some pretty awesome weapons, even back in the middle ages.

German Longsword, the Young Guns episode, one of my favorites. All 4 of those young smiths had great talent.
Colton has got some serious smithing skills, the makings of a future master.

The Zweihänder & the "Landsknechtsschwert" are technical one and the same weapon two handed swords used by "Doppelsöldner". The Katzbalg is missing which was technical the actual "Landsknechtschwert" - because every german Mercenary had up to three. Interesting that both competitors made a Zweihänder of the Flamberg sub-type.

I know it's a part of the culture but I still really enjoy seeing the excellent respect and good sportsmanship that all competitors show each other

I love when dough says “ it will keal” and I’m curious about what they do with the meat they cut ( the fish, pig, boar, deer, etc) as I hope it’s still about to be used and doesn’t get thrown away after

Good to see the guy say the other guy deserved to win cause his messer was so nice. We need more of that in this day and age

35:24 Today known as the "Saufeder" (sow-feather) it's still in use on driven hunts by canine handlers, but resembles more a spear than a huge sword. Important here is that the steel musn't be too hard but able to bend in case the boar tries to break away with the blade between its rips.

The zweihander was often used by bodyguards... very interesting history and technique involved in its use. I encourage folks to dive into that a bit

I love it when Doug says "this will kill", he has this happy and cheerful expression as if to say "if you want to go and kill somebody tomorrow, it'll definitely work and there's no doubt about it".

the zweihänder wasnt a weapon used to break the shaft of pikes
the halberd was an anti pike weapon it can cut its shaft and you can press the pike to the ground with the halberd
the zweihänder was used behind the pike line and when the pike lines hit each other and holes appear the zweihänder moves forwad in to the opening but its pretty controversial

As a German, I would like to start by thanking the whole world for the expertise you are given to us in the manufacture of weapons. Even though these are all weapons designed to kill, it makes me proud that my ancestors achieved such perfection.

Nevertheless, a man who can save 100 people is always more than a man who can kill 100.

For those, who don't know: "Zweihänder" literally just means "two-hander". It's not one specific sword, but rather an umbrella term for swords, who require both hands to use correctly. In the show they made a "Flamberge", which belongs into the category of "Zweihänder". The "Flamberge" also wasn't a German sword, but a Swiss one, also indicated by it's name, because "Flamberge" is not exactly a German word. In Switzerland, they speak German and French, which is way more consisten with the name "Flamberge". If it was German, it would probably called a "Flammenberger"
