Gideon the Ninth is my favorite book of all time and the book that rejuvenated my passion for reading and writing when I was at a very low point in my life, and I am absolutely fascinated in hearing why it didn’t work for some people. Every time someone talks about this book it is either a love or a hate and I love that it just keeps pulling visceral reactions from people no matter what.

Girl I LOVE your rant reviews. They make me CACKLE. You’re so damn funny I could watch you do this all day

Omg, The Starless Sea. I adored her other book The Night Circus, but I DNF'd The Starless Sea, which broke my heart because I kept thinking it was going to eventually be good, but I just couldn't stick with it. Too many other things to do. I read a different Jennifer McMahon book about ten years ago and liked it, but then tried one or two others of hers and thought they were just meh. So, I probably won't try My Darling Girl. However, I have the Priory of the Orange tree queued up and ready to go, so now I'm worried. 😬 Thanks for a great video.

Agreed, I love hearing all the opinions. I always look at highly rated reviews and low rated reviews of each book that I finish, I just love the different perspectives! There's a few books on this video that are on my TBR and I still loved hearing you rant! Great video 🥰

I also hated The Starless Sea and Priory of the Orange Tree. I literally throw them nasty looks when I see them on shelves. I also fkng hated City of Stardust because it felt like the Starless Sea but with violence towards children. UGH.

Loved this video! I personally really enjoyed a twisted love story bc I love reading about horrible people in toxic relationships but it was definitely marketed wrong. I actually had 0 expectations going into that book because I was super underwhelmed with My Lovely Wife and hated For Your Own Good. But it looks like everyone who loved those 2 books, hated this one 😂

I completely agree with your thoughts on As Good As Dead! I just pretend it doesn’t exist because I love the first two so much😂

About The Girl In The Video - I felt the exact same way about The Ascent, except throw in cop propaganda every other sentence.

This is the first video I’ve ever seen of yours and I am here for your energy! 😂
I used to be such an avid reader when I was younger and then I just randomly stopped one day. My New Year’s resolution was to get back into reading and finally read all those books I’ve been eyeing, and one of those is The Priory of the Orange Tree. I have a friend who owns it, and I was planning on stealing it from her, but honestly all you had to say was there wasn’t enough dragons and I’m out lol

You said the second one sounds like it might have more of the actual story rather than a world building lore book… do you think I would still need to read this one? I know you haven’t read it, but based on the last bit, was the entire rest of the book worth it? Did it add what it needed to, to make the fight more understandable?

If you have trouble liking most mystery thrillers have you tried reading Night Fim by Marisha Pessl? It is almost 600 pages but it's mixed media so it's a really fast read. I read it in 4 days And it's one of my favorite books ever.

this was so good omg. the vlog where you read notes on an execution really made me take a look back on it, and i appreciate it so much!! i also felt very bleh on following a cop but not really talking about race/gender in both the police force and the prison system, and you put it into words for me. and kiss her once for me...oh man i've never heard anyone like it, which is such a shame because the charm offensive by the same author is the only adult romance i've loved tbh. i will not be giving that one a shot lmao

sidenote, have you read no gods, no monsters by cadwell turnbull? i feel like you might like it! it flips the "monster discrimination in a modern world" thing on its head and really digs into the intersection of that and real life race issues, specifically police brutality. and also a few bits of horror sprinkled in! mind the content warnings but it was such a cool blend of fantastical, disorienting, and way too real haha. also, GREAT audiobook narrator!

Could not agree more about As Good As Dead, it wasn't bad and if it was the first in the series it would've been fine but in comparison to the other two books and the protagonist's personality in them, it just made no sense

I hate a book called Normal People. I cant understand how this book even got published. The same boring thing happened over and over for 200 plus pages. I should have DNFd it. But i kept waiting for something to happen. It didn't.
