PSA: I’m never going to lie about my experience with a book. If you love any of these books I’m so glad you enjoyed them! They just weren’t for me and that’s okay. Happy reading!

Personally think American Psycho was incredibly well executed. Society’s complacency in the face of abhorrent crimes against humanity in favour of excessive consumerism and individuality through branding has never been more relevant. Fight Club is good for the same reasons. The fact that they’re popular in certain groups who missed the point makes them even more relevant.

I actually liked the TATB books better because the movies didn’t include a lot of things from them, but I wasn’t expecting the author write like she did, and it threw me off 😭 the movies had a different vibe than the books.

The worst book I’ve read in 2023 was definitely Verity. The story is creepy and all, which is fine, but the problem is the end.
*spoilers*
When I tell you, I THREW THE BOOK ACROSS THE ROOM when I found out that Julian(?) knew about verity’s manuscript and tried to kill her in the accident where she supposedly got irremediably injured.
He KNEW guys. He lied to the protagonist (don’t remember her name, but I’m pretty sure it started with an L) about the manuscript, about how verity got injured, about the fact that verity herself requested her to continue her books, about EVERYTHING. And she still described him as the perfect husband and father. And then, the sick and twisted thing the protagonist thought while they were doing *stuff* on verity’s old bed: that SHE would give HIM what he wanted more and what verity could never do properly, a child and a family.
SHE GOT PREGNANT TO PLEASE HIM AND DO WHAT VERITY WAS NEVER CAPABLE OF DOING, BEING “a good mother”.
And after finding out the truth about Julian and the manuscript, the protagonist remained SILENT. She destroyed Verity’s letter (eating some of it) and pretended it never happened. You are willing to start a family with a MURDERER. You killed a woman that was probably innocent (verity was stupid tho, she could’ve put a disclaimer at the beginning of the manuscript, telling everyone that it was fiction and it never really happened) and when you find out your man already tried to kill her before you are willing to RAISE A CHILD with this man.
I don’t care about how gentle and cute he is with you and his son, Julian knocked Verity out and tried to convince everyone that it was an accident.
I would NEVER bring a child in this world with a person like that.

Sorry for the monologue, but I don’t see enough people talking about it and it drives me insane 💀💀💀

P.S. and sorry if the sentences don’t really make sense, English isn’t my first language 😭

Mines:
Divergent (plot was rushed, too similar to Hunger Games)
Top Marks for Murder (repetitive)

I read a book called Six Months Later this year and it started off strong, but it felt sooo stretched out after a while. The plot was interesting enough but dragged- like it felt as if half the book was the main character not knowing what to do, so it was just filler. 2 stars for me.

It might not be a popular opinion but I LOVE mile high. It’s my one of my favourite comfort books

I’ve read To All The Boys I Loved Before and really liked it when I did. Never finished the series and definitely grew out of the books. I can understand why you would think it’s stereotypical and shallow. It is now that I think about it. But if you need a good YA romance recommendation, try reading a book by Sarah Dessen if you haven’t already. Her books are so good! Very real too. I recommend The Truth About Forever. That one has been my favorite so far.

I'm surprised "By a Thread" wasn't on the list.

the 2nd book of To All the Boys I’ve Loves Before, P.S I Still Love You, is pretty good. In my opinion, it was the best book in the series.

THE 'to all the boys I've loved before' IS SO. REAL. LIKE I SWEAR BY THOSE MOVIES BUT THE BOOK WAS THE WORST THING EVER. CAN CONFIDENTLY SAY THAT THE MOVIE WAS BETTER.

Question: have you ever read ‘If We Were Villains’ by M.L Rio? If not you should totally read it if you like murder mysteries. It’s probably one of my favorite books! :) Just a little suggestion.

For me, it was Our Crooked Hearts. I didn’t like the plot and how it was executed and the plot felt like it had 5 different directions to go on and decided to do a full 180.
