The reason for a lot of those land slides is the roads that were carved into the side of the mountain. A lot of those cliff sides would have been perfectly stable without the road

Landslides, mudslides, rockslides, avalanches and sinkholes. These are by far the scariest natural occuring events.
As a Norwegian, we are quite used to these events, as they are pretty common in certain regions.
Rockslides and avalanches are common due to the steep mountain ridges and heavy snowfall.
The movie called "The Wave" is a hypothetical scenario that could happen, if a large rockslide should occur, and a similar event happened in the early 1900's, where a town got washed away.

Lake Cumberland KY. was lowered to work on Wolf Creek Dam. My dad and I on the lake casting. Maybe 2 a.m. we heard rocks and dirt slide into the lake. We never saw it but it was loud and it rocked the boat. My dad said that was scary. We was trolling in that direction and it was not far in front of us.

Landslides and ANYTHING involving a significant participation from gravity, from giant avalanches, tsunamis, landslides and Iceberg calving right down to slipping in the shower or falling off a roof - ALL have one thing in common. NONE ever give much if ANY warning. Great videos.

If my memory serves me right, anything greater than a 45 degree angle is more likely than not to slide. Of course, you have to consider underground water and rain fall; and, earthquakes.
