The photographer taking pictures of Mt St Helens was killed in the blast. He saw what had happened, knew he couldn't escape so he kept snapping pictures until it was almost upon him then he cradled the camera and covered it with his body to protect it. That's how he was found buried beneath the ash and rubble. Sad

"Watch for falling rocks" is a common road sign in California's mountains and step canyons.
When I was younger we used to joke that California did have seasons; Landslides, Earthquake, Wildfire and Freeway Shooting.

The phenomenon of the moving Norwegian slide, where a seemingly solid piece of land is in motion, is truly one of the most captivating and unusual things I've ever come across. Thank you for bringing this to light

My grandparents house was almost taken from them by a landslide, as well as their neighbours house. It came within a meter of their back door and was actually at the back door of the neighbour. As a result the neighbour was told to move out of their house whilst repairs were done, my grandparents house was deemed safe and they got to stay however this also meant they were not covered by insurance. Being in their late 80s and early 90s at the time they had no way to fix it or pay anyone else. It became a huge shitshow as it had to be fixed because the neighbour couldnt live as it was, but the insurance refused to come to the table.

My father’s generation (4 kids) got together and took out loans and my grandparents sold everything they had left (not much). The loans are still being paid off to this day. Lit took two years to fix it (they were told 6 weeks at first!) My grandparents both died about two years after it got fixed, within a month of eachother, with the house fixed but in debt they could never repay.

It was really sad.

The neighbours insurance company? They paid out their policy which ended up being almost half a million bucks! And they wasnt enough to cover half the damage a bit of sliding dirt cost everyone.

I flew over Mount Saint Helen, and the pilot mentioned it on the right. Everyone ran to my side of the plane, to look, and the wing dipped. The pilot said, “Incredible Sunset on the left!” My Father explained that the pilot was lying, to get people back in their seats, and restore the balance.

They haven’t FIXED that road at the slide near Yosemite, they’ve made a temporary bridge up and downstream from the slide and made a temporary road on the other side of the river from the slide.
