Notice he said after the meeting 2 people stay and work it out on a white board. What he's actually saying is that those 2 people are now staying late on their own time, for free

99% of the people Amazon is pushing back into the office will sit in their cube with their headphones on. But what he’s saying is true as much as it bs. An alternative is periodic monthly / quarterly meetups where a team spends the majority of one week planning and collaborating. Then go back to working remote to get the actual work done

That's how Amazon lays off employees w/o hassle.

Most Amazon employees leave after a couple years anyway. They use Amazon as a career stepping stone and they more on to work at better companies where they treat you as an adult. I worked at a tech company for 8+ years and 5 of those years were 100% remote, we still had meetups and plenty of breakthroughs in innovation. Saying there’s a lack of motivation because you work from home is hogwash.

What is amazon innovating? This guy is a joke

I understand in some industries jobs can be done from home, for example, an experienced I T professional troubleshooting from home. It's foolhardy in others, though.

It doesn't teach less experienced workers such ideas as hey, you don't like someone on a personal level, that's fine, but you need to treat them with respect on the floor. With exceptions for hardships and more experienced workers in technical or administrative jobs, it's time to return to the office.

All good news. It's hard to grope my co-workers through a zoom call.

Ahh cut the crap Jassy…. Wow are you driving to be the “best employer” forcing people to go to the office to take video calls all day. You need a better excuse to justify the millions of dollars wasted on unnecessary real state that you could have invested better in for example, better salaries for your employees!

Lmao funny coming from someone that probably doesn't work in the office and from a company that is known for having the worst culture in the industry

This guy is a CEO? His thoughts seems very short signed and dumb. What is he still in 2001?

Andy, with all due respect, your view is outdated. How collaboration among team can be better when my boss and the program manager work with live in Seattle, two of my team members live in Phoenix, one is in Hyderabad, and the other 4 (including me) are in Costa Rica. It does not make any sense.

Ignoring the building trust principle for “your own views” seems like a dumb idea given the survey data from your entire workforce.

Who don’t like it and resign, why not?

The kind of hand wavy, fact free, weasel word laden diatribe we're listening to here is the type of thing that would get you fired from Amazon.

It is stunning how far from Amazon's core values he is straying to avoid telling everyone the real reason he wants high earners back in the Seattle downtown core.
