Who Should't Buy Luminar AI (and who should)

There are some who shouldn't buy Luminar AI, and I'm going to go over five reasons why there's better off without it (and maybe a bonus reason).

I think Luminar AI is a great tool, but it's not all things to all people. There are some things Luminar AI doesn't do, and some that it does differently than other tools.

Luminar is perfect for people who take pics and just want to make basic adjustments. I've been using PS since 1999. I can't imagine not having it on my computer, but it does have a steep learning curve. It's intimidating to just about everyone. I use Luminar as a plugin, and it works great!

Comparing Luminar with Photoshop is somehow missing the point of what Luminar was made for: Quick results without spending too much time learning the program. Of cause, Photoshop is far more powerful than Luminar. But Photoshop is also far more powerful than Lightroom.

Anyway, if you need these advanced tools, you're right. Then Luminar isn't the best tool. But you'll have to spend more time learning how to edit if you use programs like Photoshop.

GREAT VIDEO! What a product can't do is more important to know than what it can do. I've looked at a ton of portrait AI software 'reviews' and this was by far the most helpful in understanding the product. I would love to see an extended version of this video. Ideally a video comparing the portrait AI products from the angle of what they can't do. For example the mask limitations you outlined. The reviews I have seen show how the masking in Luminar AI works, but not how it does not work. A similar review on Portrait Pro would be nice.

You hit the nail on the head in this video. I think all Luminar users loved Luminar 4 and lots of current owners (with me being one) of Luminar AI think it is a step backward.

Thank you for the frank review. I am a longtime Photoshop user and my plugins include the Topaz Creator suite (incl. AI series tools), Portrait Pro, Portraiture, NIK, OnOne and others. I was so, so close to purchasing Luminar AI – but two days ago I changed my mind. I have awesome tools and Luminar AI – as awesome as it seems – would not be a step forward for me. Unfortunately I watched your video AFTER I upgraded to Luminar AI ... bad mistake. And you missed one major feature that Lumiar 3 at least had: 5-Star rating and other flagging....I have no clue why they removed that. It makes it nearly impossible to sort your photos.

. Im new to luminar Neo. Im having a problem when I edit my photo and export, my photos are like thunb nails, if I try to open them they are small and are blurry if i enlarge them. I think you had said something about that before but I dont remember what. would love if you could tell me what im doing wrong. Thank a lot .

Great video. My takeaway is that for an average Joe, just looking to make some pretty pics without needing a degree in photo editing, this product will serve that niche nicely. They offered me a great deal too- $144 for AI, NEO, Aurora and 4 template packs and "Soulful Panoramas." They are also going to add their "Creative photo editing techniques" course to my account once NEO officially launches. Seems like a fantastic bundle value for <$150 and no subscriptions of any kind.

I think NEO will bring some (clearly not all) of the functionality you said AI is lacking. Aurora will allow me to use the exposure bracketing on my Nikon D5500 which I believe can make a photo look even better (more dynamic range or something- I've been watching a lot of videos!) Again, I am just a regular guy who wants to make my vacation and other photos pop more. I tried Gimp- it's free but a nightmare to learn. I did not find it even a little intuitive.
