I assume that if you want a rifle as light as that Howa, your typical hunting trip involves a long walk out, one shot, and a long walk back (with or without a kill to bring home).

Nothing wrong with a 5 pound rifle. Add a scope, scope mount, suppressor, and ammo and now you've got a nicely balanced 7 pound rifle.

Love how you got technical with the first rifle weight but didn't mention the weight of the second rifle

That little howa in 7mm 08 would be a great stalking rifle

Tikkas are a fine rilfle. Love how smooth the bolts are. Decently light, but not too light, with ammo, a can and an optic you're at comfortable carry weights with a very, very fine shooting rifle.

1. When hiking miles and miles in to a spot a nice light rifle is great

2. Unless you’re really, really bad at shooting or have a misfire you’re not gonna be shooting more than 1 maybe 2 rounds, any subsequent shots are going to be at least 20-30 minutes after the first shot when the animals are moving again which is plenty of time for the barrel to cool

3. Length of pull on a flat range that’s correct for you is going to be great on a flat range, when you’re out in the field with bags, layers and winter clothing a short length of pull is compensated by the layers

4. Hunt with anything you want, just get a clean humane kill and don’t let the animal suffer, don’t waste any part of the animal and leave no trace

It does help to have a heavier barrel and thicker butt pad but generally your only shooting one round so it’s fine. Also the shorter length of pull is nice when you have a hoodie and heavy jacket on so it moves the gun further away but still makes it comfortable to hold

Useful info. Lightweight is good for a single shot and a long walk.

Heavy is good for a short to medium walk and multiple shots

I agree with this unless your hunting bighorn then you only get one good shot anyways and you are trekking up and down mountains so the lighter your load out the less you’ll be burnt out.

Even Tikkas walnut stock is crazy light. I haven’t hunted since I was a kid and I’m getting back into it now and I remember rifles being way heavier. Also I find that I’m steadier from a standing position when it’s a bit heavier

That's actually some super solid advice that I stand behind 👌
Customers ask for the lightest i then talk newtons laws and physics...
Alot of people forget recoil is how much the bullet projectile and gasses move the firearm and user.

I give kudos to my M1 Garand.
It's heavy, but the 30-06 is quite manageable

Howa rifles are good start points for builds here in Australia, lots of people change out the stock to something better or a tactical type look and it does not break the bank as Howa is pretty cheap.

My howa 1500 is actually really heavy but that weight mitigates recoil and it is extremely accurate

Back in the 90s I had a WinLight 70 in 338 Win Mag. Under 6 lbs without a scope. She kicked bad. I put a KDF muzzle brake on her, and I still got bruses on my shoulder.

Big game hunting accuracy is all about that first shot anyway. And no, a pencil barrel won't go randomly slinging lead after the first shot, maybe after 5 or so which is irrelevant in hunting.

Was very blessed to have been trained by by a marine on guns. The gun is only as good as the shooter.

Just purchased that same exact Tikka T3x Roughtech Ember in 6.5 PRC. It's a really nice rifle. Even my FFL guy commented on nice it was and he sees guns all day long including big dollar customs.

I have a howa superlite in 6.5CM. I freaking love it. I put a leupold mk5 up top without incurring a ridiculous weight penalty. It brings the recoil down to a “regular weight” rifle.
