The thieves were actually noted as thanking Roosevelt for arresting them proper as he was entirely capable of just killing them and no one would have been around to stop him or punish him for the action. To them, he went out of his way to make sure they were safe and garunteed a fair trial in a civilized court.

It is stories like this that lead me to believe that Teddy Roosevelt was supposed to be some kind of mythological hero from Greece, or China, but accidentally ended up in 19th century America.

My favorite story about Teddy was when he was shot mid speech and continued to give his speech all while insulting his attacker, also this quote "death had to take Theodore in his sleep, for if he was awake there would have been a fight"
