💦IV Fluid Types and Uses💦

💧Isotonic Solutions💧
👉Replenishes cells from fluid losses without changing shape of cells.
👉Ex: 0.9% NS or Lactated Ringers
👉Uses: In B-A-D situations.

B: Burns, Blood Loss 🩸
A: Anaphylaxis/Shock
D: Dehydration

💧Hypotonic Solution💧
👉Pushes fluid INTO cells to expand them and ⬆️ total fluid volume.
👉Ex: 1/2 NS
👉Uses: Gotta D-I-G fluids back into the cells

D: DKA
I: Increased Total Fluid Volume
G: Gastric Fluid Loss

💧Hypertonic Solutions💧
👉Fluid goes OUT of cells to shrink them and ⬇️ fluid levels.
👉Ex: 3% NS
👉Uses: when your S-O-C-K is drenched w/ water, get the fluid out.

S: Severe hyponatremia
O: Overload of Fluid
C: Cerebral Edema
