SpaceX Makes History: Rocket Booster 'Caught' Mid-Air On Launchpad In Groundbreaking First | N18G

In a historic first, SpaceX successfully "caught" a falling rocket booster mid-air using its innovative launchpad technology during its latest test flight. This dramatic achievement took place as the Super Heavy booster returned from its mission, seamlessly landing back on the launch pad at Boca Chica, Texas, thanks to a pair of giant metal arms known as "Mechazilla."

Witness the moment as the towering 71-metre-tall booster descends, relighting its engines to slow its descent before being captured by the launch tower. CEO Elon Musk celebrated the milestone on social media, showcasing the company’s advancements toward fully reusable rocket technology. This breakthrough is a significant step in SpaceX's mission to develop a spacecraft capable of facilitating human journeys to the Moon and Mars.

It’s funny it looks so basic and the propulsion control unreal it’s like watching something from thunderbirds but this is actually real .. unbelievable 😊

That Starship is equivalent to 40+ storey building the booster alone is 20+ storey building.❤❤

Several years ago, when SpaceX landings were repeatedly failing, I suggested a similar approach on social media, but with an improved design. My concept involved a large funnel made of multiple spring-loaded arms. This funnel would allow the rocket to enter at any angle, accommodating significant misalignment. The arms would then center the rocket and absorb the downward inertia, allowing for a smooth and controlled capture of the booster.

Here's a conspiracy theory for y'all...looks like AI is being applied to fake this booster capture.
