Being perfectly honest, I discovered King Crimson bc of JoJo and listened to this version of Epitaph first. Let's say it was one of my greatest musical discoveries. Been listening to entire albums after that, but I keep coming back to that song. I think it's their best

This arpeggio, this melody... A perfect song in all its versions.

Jakko was beyond a doubt Crimson's best singer. As much as I liked the others, Jakko is in a class of his own.

{Lyrics}
The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams

Confusion will be my epitaph
As I crawl a cracked and broken path
If we make it, we can all sit back and laugh
But I fear, tomorrow, I'll be crying
Yes, I fear, tomorrow, I'll be crying
Yes, I fear, tomorrow, I'll be crying

Between the iron gates of fate
The seeds of time were sown
And watered by the deeds of those
Who know and who are known
Knowledge is a deadly friend
If no one sets the rules
The fate of all mankind, I see
Is in the hands of fools

The wall on which the prophets wrote
Is cracking at the seams
Upon the instruments of death
The sunlight brightly gleams
When every man is torn apart
With nightmares and with dreams
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
When silence drowns the screams

Confusion will be my epitaph
As I crawl, a cracked and broken path
If we make it, we can all sit back and laugh
But I fear, tomorrow, I'll be crying
Yes, I fear, tomorrow, I'll be crying
Yes, I fear, tomorrow, I'll be crying
Crying, crying
Yes, I fear, tomorrow, I'll be crying
Yes, I fear, tomorrow, I'll be crying
Yes, I fear, tomorrow, I'll be crying
Crying

This is such a timeless masterpiece. The amount of emotion wrapped up in these notes is palpable and the message of the song is now as important as ever.

The original version's vocals sound like the singer is warning us of the future and a prophecy is being told.

The live version's vocals sound like the singer has read the prophecy and now that the words are coming true, he has resigned to his fate and is now telling a story to the coming generations. Of how the prophecy was ignored. Of how they came to an end.

It's basically impossible to top the masterpiece that is the original Epitaph, but this a surprisingly solid version of the song.

Same with Starless, now that I think about it.

Having followed KC since the first album, I’ve never know the band to repeat anything. Re-perform, certainly for live events but this revisiting of a classic Greg Lake vocal is both an homage to Greg (RIP) as it is JoJo bringing a new interpretation while sounding remarkable similar to the late Greg Lake.

The message is pretty relevant now more than ever. Seriously, no joke.
"The fate of all mankind, I fear, is in the hands of fools..."

Sometimes I fear if the next day will be the last. Sometimes I fear that tomorrow I'll be crying. How things are going in the world, I fear war will break. Now that we have nuclear arms, I fear that we will die _before_ realizing what is *really* happening.
How many people do *really* pay attention. I fear that many do not, and one day it will be too late.

I fear that confusion will be our epitaph.

It doesn't have the same suspense as the original when the instruments start building after "The hands of fools" but the singer really gives his all in epitaph

For years I kept checking You Tube for King Crimson. Thanks again to Robert Fripp, for easing up on the proprietary copyrights

I prefer this version to original. There's just something haunting about it.
