The janitor thing is a misconception: a lot of Japanese schools do have janitors, usually for jobs deemed unsafe or unsuitable for children.

Also grades are a very serious thing in Japan. The better your grades, the better highschool you can get into, and thus the better college you can get into. There are some jobs that won't even look at the rest of your application once they look where you went to school. Think of the difference between Stanford and a state college, and that starts in Highschool in Japan.

As someone who worked at public schools in Japan, I can verify these, except teachers getting national holidays off, they really only get new years off in some schools

The uniform policy is very similar to that of most schools in the UK, the only one we don’t have is the restrictions on bags

This is all generally true, although school uniform rules vary a lot by school. Private schools tend to have stricter rules and uniforms and usually start in elementary school. Public schools often have no official uniform, although there are dress codes and rules.

I always find it so entertaining and awesome that my country (Trinidad and Tobago) school is exactly the same as Japan's school

Personally speaking from experience, I can say it’s nothing like in anime. For example, the roof is locked at all times expect emergencies. We practice sports for 6 times a week. Entrance exam material is not taught in schools, rather most students go to a cram school otherwise known as a juku

The uniform thing also happens here in Trinidad. Head to toe, there are rules about what you can wear and how. Uniforms are a plus though, as it takes the pressure off of kids, who can't afford the 'best' of everything. So they don't feel alienated (at least in that way).

Number 1 is very similar to Australia, but instead of homework we're busy with Christmas, New Years and family holiday before going back at the end of January (for NSW at least). We don't have very many holidays, two weeks off after each term and only a six week summer holiday
