I am amazed how they can design and build such a massive and complex ship !
It was even more amazing back in the days when drawings had to all be done by hand.

The size of things on an aircraft carrier is just mind boggling! Thanks 👍 for showing us the process. Great video! 😊😊😊😊❤❤❤❤

"First Person petty officer"? I think the term you're looking for is "First Class Petty officer".

"Especially at the Battle of Midway." Cue video clip of Pearl Harbor. Who narrates this stuff? Do they even look at the video or simply regurgitate the copy stuck in front of their face?

it's amazing that these things can go 35mph, and maybe way more

I did a cruise on the USS America. We anchored off Yemen. Well the anchor and all the chain went to the bottom. Had to get a salvage ship to retrieve it

I served on an older "super carrier" & was told the links of the anchor chain (on ours anyway) weighed 360 lbs. each!

The new lines are made of spectra 12 it's 5 times stronger than steel and a quarter of the weight of old lines, each link on the chain is over 200 lbs

I wonder if those anchors can totally stop an aircraft carrier.
I am sure they slow down some but 30 tons doesnt seem like a lot of weight compared to a floating city.

I'm sure theres easily available stock footage for the battle of midway. It's weird to hear "as shown..., " then see videos from pearl harbor.

I live 15 minutes from Newport News Shipbuilding and have driven by it on my way to and from work for more than 20 years. I've seen many of those "superlifts" dangling in the air as I sit in traffic at the Monitor-Merrimac Bridge Tunnel. Spent 2 cruises as part of the air wing on the USS Independence and 1 on the USS Forrestal. The Forrestal was considered to be the first "Super Carrier" ever built Massive ships that are dwarfed by the newer Ford class carriers.

Carriers being built modular is a fairly recent change - I think the Ford itself was the first such US example.
