Dams are designed with silt scouring facilities with the silt inlets/outlets lower than the discharge inlets/outlets of the turbines. Measures have also been taken to plant trees on slopes of the rivers to reduce siltation problems.

I'm confused. The Three Gorges Dam management "ingeniously stores clear water and discharges muddy water to minimize the accumulation of silt" but still it apparently has a crisis of silt accumulation.

Why worry about China's dam silt I have dealt with Chinese Authorities since 1987. Any project they embark on there are thorough serious considerations on future solutions. This is nothing compared to USA debts of USD35T that will drown them.

I think that this solution would be effective,
install between 3000 and 5000 vertical water pump from the gorge in the direction upstream
when all pumps are working - the silt would slowly rise and enter the ware flow - through the dam
The water pumps should be a t a depth just above the silt - and not inserted into the silt bed
this will prevent the silt from settling
