China’s $31 BILLION Three Gorges Dam Is COLLAPSING!

The Three Gorges Dam has recently been making headlines for all the wrong reasons. The alarming news of its potential collapse has sent shockwaves through the world, raising concerns about the catastrophic consequences that could follow. What's surprising is that a dam that cost China a whopping 31 billion dollars to build and became operational fairly recently, could collapse. Right now, the three gorges dam is on high alert as recent floods triggered by torrential rains wreaked havoc in the country, and experts are worried due to the dam’s weak capability of withstanding heavy floods. Today let’s delve into the potential collapse of the Three Gorges Dam and investigate the scale of this impending disaster.

99% clickbait/propaganda. I have been seeing these videos about how the dam is starting to fail for close to ten years. These videos are almost exact copies of each other. Once or twice a year I will click on one just to see if it might be something new.

If you already know the dam's history, justification, stats, etc., and just want to know what this video has to say about the subject of the danger of collapse, skip ahead to the 7:10 mark.

We've been hearing about the immanent collapse of this dam ever since it reached full pool.

It doesn't need to collapse, it does enough damage downstream every time they open its gates.

The biggest problem that the builders did was not allowing proper curing of the concrete in the main dam construction. The best dam ever built in the world was the Hoover Dam in Nevada. finished in 1937 the cure rate is approx 100 years. so the concrete is still curing. but the biggest difference is that the Hoover Dam is 700 feet thick at the bottom and the dam has a curved side using the water pressure on the curved sides to actually strengthen the dam; on the 3 Gorges Dam in China there is no curved strength on its side but in its height. It has a 300-foot base curved upward to keep the dam water pressure from pushing the dam forward. the curve goes all the way to the top of the dam. However, remember that the concrete has not been cured yet in the dam and it could be the reason the dam is no longer in a straight line. which means it's moving a little bit every year that the curing process is not happening. it is a matter of time before this dam will eventually fail. probably in less than 50 years.

The dam itself isn't in danger of collapse, however one of the key reasons for building it - namely the supposed better control of water above and below the dam - has been undone less than two decades after its completion. If these floods become the norm then they may have to rethink the utilisation. A greater all round release of water, particularly in the drier months will be needed. It is clear that the danger of needing massive releases comes from the reservoir being too high all year round. They need to sacrifice some potential for generating capacity to keep the water level lower, so that in the wet season there is no need for panic measures such as 9-11 release gates being opened.

This type of video should have a Jump to Main Point button.

Oh No!! Another Three Gorges Dam going to collapse episode. Every year during rainy season it will appear without fail. Either it is cracking or collapsing, since 2006. Must be a very slow collapse.

Only surprising predictions, no data, no facts. Total nonsense.

"Is" collapsing is vastly different than "could" collapse. The title is clickbait !!!! Everything is collapsing, wearing out, could collapse from the day it is completed and this dam is no different. There will be a very small time period between 'could' and 'is' and until the time period has elapsed the word is 'could'.

Don’t they know how unreliable Chinese products are?

Canadian civil engineers were hired by China to design the dam. The Canadians wrote that the dam’s design could only handle a reservoir of water 150 meters high. China’s arrogance built it to 180 meters because it wanted to jack up its electricity output. 150 meters of water height in the reservoir has been repeatedly exceeded because of heavy rains and upstream floods. The Canadians balked at a reservoir 180 meters high 6:53because the structure might not be able to withstand the loads. The Canadians were excluded from monitoring best construction practices specified in their design, so there is concern corners were cut in its construction. Even when it was built there were warnings from Chinese civil engineers and hydrologists. Politics prevailed. It was needed for political reasons.

It’s built over two earthquake fault lines and when the reservoir rises above 150 meters, the gravity dam increases earthquakes by a factor of 8. That’s why it has to open the flood gates. Too much weight and stress on the structure and foundation. The velocity and weight of water rushing through the floodgates must cause vibrations throughout the structure. Let’s hope there no tofu in the dam’s concrete.

My gut is telling me this is an AI generated video and talkbot, the speech is very good and precise in a robotic way, words are pronounced the same way every time. AI is very good at listing endless lists of facts few are interested in, just like Mr Data in STNG.

So many videos about the 3 gorges dam collapsing. Been waiting for this thing to collapse since day 1

What absolute damn nonsense! There is not a word in this diatribe that supports the notion that this dam is collapsing. I wasted 10 minutes.

That video said nothing, that everybody doesn't already know. 3rd grade school.

Perhaps they should have invested in many high head dams on the tributaries, for power and flood control, and not focused on one "big" dam.

They build a new coal fired powerplant every week no exageration

It's more of a management failure. Managing the dam for massive electrical generation versus flood control is the biggest problem. It just can't stand the floods if it's already full
