Planting Lisianthus In the Cut Flower Garden in Zone 5B!

Hello Garden Gals and Guys! Today is, yet again, an exciting day for me! I've worked VERY hard to keep these babes alive and I'm happy to say I have 26 Lisianthus seedlings to plant out into the cut flower garden! For reference, I started with 75 I believe, so I'm thrilled with this outcome because they are notoriously difficult to grow from seed and I only got 4 into the cut flower garden last year. BIG improvement!

Check out this video to see how I'm moving my seedlings into the garden and to hear a little bit about this flower who is a real beauty! I hope you find it helpful. She's one of my favs - as you can probably tell! If you've enjoyed this video please give it a "thumbs up" and if you enjoy my content please "subscribe" to ensure you never miss a video! I'd love to have you here! Comment below and let me know any other tips and tricks you have for growing Lisianthus - the more information people have the better! Thank you in advance for sharing!

Thanks for watching! Happy Planting!

This is my first time growing lissies from seed. 3 varieties from Johnny’s. 150 seeds sown, only 25 in the garden. I enjoy following along with you and comparing techniques/results. Thanks for the videos 🌸💕🌸

You did well! I had six Lisianthus growing until I baked them! So, my Foxgloves, only 2!?, but so many successful flowers! I took the dentist office flowers and they said "and you grew them too?
The Doctor even took notice!
So, only marketing now!

So pretty! I’ve never attempted to grow them but I’m up for a challenge next year. I can’t wait to see yours grow because I love both those colors. Have you ever tried using soil blockers? I have a set (a mini for small seeds & a 2”one that I can pop the minis in when they out grow their blocks) I got from Fruition Seeds. She’s in upstate NY in the states. Petra gives a great tutorial on there and she uses a high coconut core mixture as do I along with Mycorrhizael, compost, and a little bit of perlite. They hold moisture better and when the roots hit the air wall they just turn around and stay contained but not get root bound or stressed. Then I just pop them onto a tray & water until I plant them out.

Can't wait to get mine in the raised bed I just cleaned out - hopefully this weekend!! Like you I wanted to see if I could grow them and am very happy that I have lots but still have some plugs on the way too! Couldn't take the chance since I sell to florists!!

You don't need to plant them far apart. They grow great close to each other. I plant them 2-3 inches apart. (Have been growing thousands for the past few years)

I really wanna try growing lisianthus from seed but I just don’t have the room to dedicate to such a slow growing flower. I can’t wait to move! Your lissies look great! Congrats!

Steph you are so funny and adorable 😝😂. You are so like me, what day is it😩. Good luck with those fickle babies, I don’t have much luck with them. I grew them twice from seed, let’s not talk about it🤪
