Do you need to get your nutrients from food? Why can't you just take supplements?

So there's something about the synergistic effect of nutrients from foods specifically, versus getting them from an isolated supplement source. So for example, if you are looking to get vitamin A or vitamin K, and you're taking a supplement, you're exclusively getting those vitamins, whereas if you were to eat a salad with lots of vegetables, you're going to be getting not only the vitamin A and the vitamin K that you're looking for, but everything in between the fiber, the vitamin C, the vitamin B, if it exists there. So you're getting a lot more when you're actually eating food. Also, who wants to just take supplements? Who doesn't want to eat real food?
