I would like to point out to all the people that have left comments about this polluting. if you clean the crap out of your ears and listen to video I say you only do this when it's extremely cold and windy outside. Us truckers live in our trucks for weeks at a time. So if you don't want us idling on the few nights that it's really cold. Then stop going to the store and buying stuff. if you watch most of my other videos I'm trying to help people get better fuel economy. More importantly bumping up the idle Burns less fuel and pollutes less than low idling. so if you don't know what you're talking be quiet.

As someone whose never touched the inside of a semi, this information is still interesting to know.

I support truckers.

Okay I'll idle the engine at 5000 rpms from sundown to sunrise. Thank you for the tip

I'm in -10 degrees in Minot, ND. I didn't know about this. This helps a lot.

Just turn your truck off and spend the night at the motel in the lot lizard’s warm cozy room. It will cost you though. Ha! Don’t do it, I’m joking.

The biggest and most important thing is the particulate filter. Idling is it’s enemy as it doesn’t make enough heat to keep it clean. The pile pressure is fine at idle because there is no load. The fuel system will not lose lubricant at idle .

When you idle it at a higher rpm around the 900 RPM range it spins your VGT faster about 10-15 thousand RPM more therefore creating a little more heat down stream in the DPF in turn which allows it to be more efficient with less differential pressure in the DPF which allows it to burn the NOx and push it through the SCR creating a cleaner burn and a cleaner DPF and as we all know a well maintained regen system equals less down time.

On my 2022 Cascadia the oil pressure gauge stays at 50 all the time. Saying that, the DD15 manual actually states that you should idle at 900rpm if you're sitting for more than 15min.

Even if you're not a truck driver, this is still really useful information.

Too much low idleing oil gets like sludge and you can burn the crown of the piston

My datsun has a hand throttle makes it easy to warm up the ute.

Funny. I can't imagine a truck without auxilliary/independent heater here in Europe. It runs without engine, and it takes like 0.25 litre per hour ( 1/16 of gallon).

Do any of these big trucks have a small auxiliary motor they could use to keep the block and the cabin warm? It seems like that would be more efficient and economical then running the engine

Helps keep engine temps closer to optimum too, and the oil pressure saves the bearings, get oil to the top end to lube cam!/lifters/valve guides upper cylinders.

As someone who has never touched the cockpit of a semi . as a pilot I support you guys .

I mean us pilots are just the truck/bus drivers of the skies . you take care now :)

I agree with your video. I’ve always done this specially in the winter, it helps keep the water running and hot air flowing. Now my current truck has an idle shut off but it ain’t my truck to try to turn on when everything gels up.

Respect to you all. I knew very little about trucks and i read through about 100 comments and learned a bit

I've heard we're supposed to idle at high rpm to keep the exhaust filter from clogging

I've been a diesel mechanic for 43 years I have been pushing the drivers the fact the worst thing you can do to a diesel engine is let it idle for hours at a time under no load that puts so much excessive wear on a diesel engine it is not worth it now with him showing the drivers how to at least get proper oil pressure up to the top of the engine kudos to him for sharing his information yes it definitely helps but it is still against the rules of thumb as far as idling a diesel whenever possible do not idle them overnight.
