Thinking this over, I decided what really looks cheap in our house is us! I wear old yoga pants with a faded Land's End tank top. My husband wears baggy sweatpants and old travel-trinket t-shirts. But we're comfy.

I feel more to the point is to get over our insecurities and not care what others think of our taste. These decor decisions sound more like high school mean girls : when you are tired of your stuff switch it out and have a blast searching for the replacement but fretting over the judgement of people we invite into our homes…. Really, ditch those “friends”, better yet, let them dump you to search out souls as equally shallow as themselves.

You have to keep the dust ruffle because today's comforters don't fully cover the mattress

I just do NOT get the grommet hate. I think some folks think they want to be part of the cool kids group aka "designer" click by hating on grommet drapes. 🙄The issue isn't the grommets. The issue is people are cheap and don't want to buy enough panels. Also, the grommets need to match the rod 🤔

I live alone as a woman and wash my bathroom rugs every week on 60° celsius. My toilet itself has no fabric on it. It is not 'cheap'. When you buy nice rugs and not bad quality, it is nice and comfortable for your feet.

You don’t like a dust ruffle on the bed because it draws dust when touching the carpet, BUT, we should have curtains that hang down on the floor? Make up your mind...

I love pillows, curtains, dust ruffles. Not going to give up.

Great video. I agree with all your points and I committed many of these decorating mistakes when I was 20. I think the biggest thing that cheapens your home is clutter. Just cleaning up and decluttering can elevate your home’s appearance so much. I like your approach and find you refreshingly intelligent and interesting. Thank you for all your hard work.

I downsized to a two bed two bath I have under the bed storage under my king-size bed. I have a dust ruffle on the bed, which I am so grateful to have. It is a tailored box pleat one that looks awesome and I will never get rid of it to tell me to just get rid of the stuff under my bed tells me that you don’t understand small space living no shade, but there’s important things under my bed being stored I can’t just get rid of them and there was literally nowhere else in this place to put them

I don't get the gromet hate. I guess since my shower curtains are NOT gromets then I don't think shower curtains when I see them on windows.

Agree with everything except the dust ruffle. Mine is tailored champagne satin with split corners and a pleat at each side. Looks great on my canopy bed.

I have a fix to your popcorn ceilings. I have a smallish apartment, so this may not be practical for some, but I’ve had new drywall put up to cover the popcorn ceilings. I hired a pro, had to move out for four days to avoid the drywall’s putty dust, but it was not terribly expensive. I have never regretted this. My place looks a hundred times better!

This is my first time watching your channel. I think there are probably many women that agree with most of what you view as cheap. However, I think and hope there are just as many women out there like me, that as we get older, not old, we have learned that life is hard enough trying to keep stress low and inspire happiness in our surroundings and with the people in our lives. Everyone has different tastes. I think patterned comforters, long vs short curtains etc... all depends on what else is in the room and what the patterns are.. there are very soft colors and patterns that are soothing for those who desire and need tranquility to keep depression/anxiety at bay. Some women that have lost their spouses and no longer have to have their bedrooms or homes look suitable for a man and woman.. she can have whatever style pleases her.. determining cheap vs not cheap is in the eye of the beholder... keeping up with the Jones has been what has gotten most of our society in the unloving and uncaring state and rat race for money that is in the world today. Many women and families prefer cozy, homey, comfy environment with soothing decor, , not caring about if it makes the room look larger or if the pattern might look to busy for some... I think it would be such a boring world if we all changed our homes to these guidelines so they wouldn't look "cheap" in others eyes.. then all of our homes would truly be cookie cutter! lol Just wanted to use my freedom to give a different perspective.. I love that you are confident and feel at ease to share with us and I feel comfortable to do the same.. life is beautiful... Have a blessed week!! I subscribed to your channel..

I painted The Starry Night on canvas and hung it in my kitchen, which is one of the first things you see when entering my home and gotten a lot of compliments. I say people can tell if something is mass produced well-known art piece versus personal reproduction on canvas. So why not display your husband's artistry? It's looks really good!

All really good points. I will say though some of us cannot have floor length curtains. I wish I could, but I live in a 1950's built house that has old fashioned baseboard heaters and have to have curtains short enough to not catch fire unfortunately.

I like grommet curtains, easy to slide open. Also look best when there are extra panels for fullness.

Be careful with carpet pads with LVP floors. Be sure to read warnings on various pads. Also, we removed our bed skirt, purchased new mattress, box springs, not realizing the taller springs made our custom spread too short. I finally discovered there is an extra large queen size spread. Perfect size! But, one simple change can lead to another problem.

I think using the word "Cheap" was not well thought out. It comes across as a bit rude, judgemental, and sort of shaming, which I don't believe you meant. Maybe expressing your reasons for choosing to change up Your home (less cluttered look, more streamlined look, easier to maintain and keep clean, etc.) and focusing on Your home, would have been a better choice. My personal preference is very minimalistic which works for me and makes me happy. All that matters is that our haven from the world is in the style that brings us comfort, and holds whatever it is that makes us happy.
