Klipsch RP-600M Reference Premiere Bookshelf Speakers Review

The RP-600M is on the mid to large size for a bookshelf speaker. They are almost 16” tall, 12” deep, and 8” wide. So while they might fit on a big bookcase, they will most likely be set up on a nice pair of speaker stands.

Like many speakers this size, the RP-600M is a two-way design with a 6 ½” woofer and 1” tweeter. Although with Klipsch, you don’t just get a standard tweeter but their Tractrix design. They come in two finishes standard, walnut or ebony and have what looks like a very durable finish that should be somewhat immune from getting dinged up if you move them around. There is an optional piano black finish that is just beautifully done. We also like the fact they come with magnetic grills, which is a nice touch in this price range. Although we actually prefer them with their grills off. It’s clear the aesthetic design team spent some time making sure the RP-600M looked impressive when you popped the grill. They accented the Tractrix horn with copper to match the cool looking copper finish of the special woofers.

For the price, the RP-600M is one of the audio world’s great values. There are other speakers in this price range that can keep up or maybe surpass it in terms of transparency, but we have not heard anything its size and price that can reproduce deep bass like they do and give you that emotional impact of a live performance. While they will sound pretty good if you just plop them down, its worth it to spend a little time in setting them up to get the most out of them. After spending some time with these, it is easy to see why they are getting such good press from a variety of sources, they really are pretty incredible for the money.

Bookshelf Power House
These relatively small speakers can fill a room with big sound that reaches down quite low for their size.

Love the Efficiency

Indeed a fine and affordable speaker. I have these and have them hooked up to a 12w Reisong A10 integrated amp. The combination is superb! The detailed reproduction revealed many notes in my song collection I missed with my prev setup.

I own these speakers. I have them paired up to vintage Harman Kardon 730. The HK 730 is a true dual powered receiver which really tones down the highs and give the speakers a slightly warmer than normal sound. Perfect combo if I must say

All true. I own a pair of '78 Klipschorns and a pair of Klipsch RP-160s (the less-mentioned earlier version of the RP-600s, and nearly identical). The Khorns are more dynamic, yes, but my RP-160s are sweeter and better at imaging. And the two are surprisingly similar in terms of transparency. Contrary to the advice given here, I place my 160s just six inches from the rear wall - basically right on top of my Khorns in the corners. This placement really reinforces their bass. But I also have a bass trap right behind each, so the resulting bass pressure extends higher up the frequency range (helping to fill in the mid range) without becoming bloated. With this set up, the sound stage from these little speakers is staggering! They literally disappear and make me feel like I'm sitting in front of a full orchestra. My friends can't tell which speakers are playing, the Khorns or the 160s. But I can; and in my relatively small space, I prefer the 160s!

I have only 5cm to rear port to rear wall, this will result in what? using audyssey indeed. Blew up speaker? distort? muffled bass? overpower bass? damage something of make a sealed on?

This speaker with a receiver or the Fives and why or why not? Assume total price is the same!

Thanks a lot fort this video. I've purchased recently a McIntosh 5300 amplifier and I'd like to match them with the Cornwall IV in a couple of years (once I save the money for it). In the meantime I need a couple of cheap speakers... so, do you think these Klipch in this video will do a good job with my amplifier?. Many thanks again.

Can't find them in walnut anywhere for less than $770. They have skyrocketed in price! Wondering if they are still the way to go with them now costing $250 more...?

Try setting these up with a huge toe in, like crossing paths, then listen to the sound stage.
