I have learned that even transitions that we wouldn't even have thought about effect (affect?) us.
Like going from one room to the other in our homes.
Getting out of bed (maybe people have mentioned this) unfairly being told we are lazy or "Why do you wait until the last minute" and then internalizing that to criticize ourselves (before we know what the truth is in how we function).
Finally understanding (starting at the bigger things) about transitions being difficult changed my life.
It doesn't eliminate the difficulty, but helps with us not beating ourselves up over it. Essentially being gentler on ourselves.

They suck! If I could just be in one place that is safe, stable and secure, I would. Not a fan of change. At all. I have been in a transitional place for a while and it’s wrecking me.

Yeah, It takes me about 5 hours to transition to going to bed and about a day to transition from going to work to having a day off XD

Yeah, I relate. When my mental health is worse transitions take longer.

I have often wondered why transitions are more difficult for some than others. What is involved in helping people prepare and adapt to change? I am not on the spectrum but have adhd. I’ve always struggled with transitions and sudden changes. It takes me longer to switch between tasks and I can get burnt out and freeze up if the change is too sudden. However I’m okay with sudden changes if someone explains before hand that it is normal and expected for things to change frequently without advanced warning. I feel prepared to brace for frequent changes. I always felt weird for struggling with this but hearing how others have this challenge too makes me feel better understood and not so alone.

I think it would help to give us neurotypicals some tips on how to make it easier for you
