i hope you can find a better way, but it seems like you're going to have to clean off the applicator and get the stopper with pliers or something. it'll be a shame for the lost product, but way better than having to throw it out or struggle to get it out of the tube! maybe to save some, you could scrape as much back into the bottle as you can before washing the applicator

The stopper is the problem. Maybe it was a defect and they used it anyway. You should be able to exchange it.
