Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas - Ending Scene

There he goes...
one of God's own prototypes.
A high-powered mutant of some kind
never even considered for mass production.
- Too weird to live, and too rare to die.
- Ugh!
We're all wired
into a survival trip now.
No more of the speed
that fueled the '60s.
That was the fatal flaw
in Tim Leary's trip.
He crashed around America,
selling "consciousness expansion"...
without ever giving a thought
to the grim meat-hook realities
that were lying in wait...
for all those people
who took him seriously.
All those pathetically eager
acid freaks...
who thought they could buy peace
and understanding for three bucks a hit.
But their loss and failure...
is ours too.
What Leary took down with him was
the central illusion of a whole lifestyle...
that he helped create.
A generation of permanent cripples...
failed seekers...
who never understood the essential
old-mystic fallacy of the acid culture:
the desperate assumption
that somebody...
or at least some force...
is tending the light
at the end of the tunnel.

Man, that's such a strong quote and so true...as a former user I can say it's hard to face the truth but that was exactly what I was lookin for all those years...peace and understanding, surrounded by "openminded", trippin' people....but it was an illusion and when I woke up I fell into depression..

(sorry for my english - I'm not a native speaker)

The wave speech and the ending have to be two of the most powerful parts of this movie

Lovely ending, it was all a dream, a fake idea that got so big that it became a lifestyle. Beautiful.
The idea of spirituality in drugs is a mistake. Drugs are for the present, for the moment, you can't expect fixing your life with them but you can experience your own environment in a better way, LSD changed my life in the way of experiencing situations but I don't support the idea of believing there's ''another side'' that we can only experience with drugs. That's what Leary and a lot of the artists in the 60s were selling, the idea that death was curation and life was the road to it.

This movie so captures my thoughts on the creation of the Internet: We built this thing and careened around the the 80's and 90's hooking everyone up with no thought as to what the true impact to society and ourselves would be. We made this thing, thought it was funny, thought it would bring everyone together...

Under the assumption that someone, somewhere was tending the light at the end of the

This movie makes me feel nostalgic for a decade I wasn't alive for. HST was brilliant with his craft.

“However much spiritual value LSD has or lacks, it won't save you from your own life.”

for a movie that is so fucking unclear, it really ends on a note that is quite beautiful just as much as it is bitter sweet

The old mystic spiritual trips - go ahead, the 'universe' has got your back. The modern drug-nihilism that this maxim was twisted into -- 'no-one' has got your back, everything is 'you'.

The short moment when it’s that slow zoom over the water (?) on the floor, with the Neil Young music, is the best part of the movie, which says a lot.

0:36 Has to be one of the most beautiful shots ever filmed. I don't know what it is about it, but it's just brilliant. Pecorni did a fantastic job on this film.

I dont remember if this was finished before or after Oscar Zeta Acosta disappeared. but if it was before, it's like Thomson had some idea of what was gonna happen to him. To reckless to somehow live, but too unique to just die like everyone else. For all we know the cartel killed him, and for all we know he's chilling in chile
