Despite Ronald McDonald's warm personality and willingness to have fun, the year 2016 brought some negative headlines to clowns all over the world that not even the all-powerful McDonald's wanted to attempt to rectify. Perhaps you recall the spate of genuinely creepy clown sightings that occurred across the United States in 2016. The clowns were stalking schools, chasing cars with knives, and generally acting in a creepy manner.
It was very obvious that Ronald McDonald needed to take a lengthy leave of absence since the spooky clowns were causing more difficulty than McDonald's cared to deal with. Although that may have been the final straw that caused McDonald's to fire its clown, it wasn't the only factor. Ronald McDonald has seen his share of media controversy despite being a made-up clown. Given the growth in juvenile obesity, it was becoming more and more troublesome that Ronald McDonald's main objective was to promote fast food to kids.
