What we eat -- and don’t eat -- is directly related to our health. Poor diets lead to poor health outcomes, including cancer. Dr. Donald Abrams, integrative oncologist at UCSF Osher Center for Integrative Medicine, is an expert on nutrition and cancer. Dr. Abrams says you can never overstate how important the food we eat is to our health. He says nearly 50% of the most common cancers can be prevented by eating well, maintaining a healthy weight and active lifestyle, not smoking, using sunscreen, and getting vaccinated. Recorded on 05/18/2022. [9/2022] [Show ID: 38193]

I must question why when in the hospital due to a cancer (3rd time over 26 years and this one result of radiation that was necessary) the food on the tray was ensure products that list corn fructose as the first ingredient. I couldn't make myself take it in bc I felt I was defeating all that my surgeon and nurses had done. Not to mention all the pain I went through. Who is making the decision at the hospital kitchen--there are other options--but ensure must be making it worth it to the hospital entities? Kickbacks perhaps.

I truly enjoyed watching this video. Historically, I had no idea my Family was so untrained in understanding the fundamental building blocks of proper diet, lifestyle choices, and how to maintain one's health; especially with the passage of time. As time passes, I have to thank YouTube for bringing the power of millions of minds together, allowing society to make substantial strides, which with the press of the Enter Key, allow one to have the best opportunities to live a healthy, prosperous, and happy life. Thank you, Dr. Abrams, M.D. - MDM, JD Candidate.

Thanks so much. This was very helpful. My cancer was cured but I feel glad to know I’ve been on the right track to hopefully prevent a recurrence.

Thank you! I am a Cancer patient "in recovery" and I appreciate this video. : ) I am now a vegetarian and have never felt better! cut out the use of sugar/sugar foods & sodas. Best choice I have ever made for myself and animals.

If you can’t afford it, grow it. Seeds are generally inexpensive and some things can be grown indoors ❤️

Such a great video. I’m on a cancer risk reduction journey as both my parents have died or will die (currently receiving palliative chemo) of cancer, and I’d rather not die while my kids are young. This guy is so reasonable and straightforward. Taking his tips to heart for myself and my kids.

My grandma and grandpa ate meat regularly and sometimes red meat, though not always. They did not abstain from sweets like ice cream, cake, pies ( which my grandma always baked) they would consume moderately or occasionally. They ate eggs (chicken eggs) quite often. Did take a multivitamin, Geritol plus vitamin C and E. Don’t think they even knew what turmeric was although yellow mustard was consumed often. They did eat a lot of vegetables —sometimes over cooked in my opinion. They also ate fish often — cod, flounder sole. Grandpa love to eat a tin of sardines with a shot of cold vodka! Grandma’s favorite snack was marinated pigs feet from a jar—Yecch! Did not smoke, drank alcohol moderately, grandma anyway. Grandma lived to be 97 grandpa 92 but he smoked ciggies in his younger years (until age 70 but not a heavy smoker). grandpa was still fishing bowling and golfing well into his 80sBoth were thin all their lives, never had heart disease, cancer or diabetes. So go figure. Also, both worshiped together regularly— church every Sunday and prayer most evenings.

Yeah, I wish that I had been able to stop my mom from eating fast food. I took care of her for eight years and I wish that I had had her on a whole food plant based diet.

The breakfast in the hotels are very bad to compare the one in Europe. Most of American hotels do not provide the plain yoghurt . All are too sweet including yogurt. It is one of my observations about the food in America.

I lost both my parents (and my elder brother) from cancers. My dad used to drink 4 glasses of freshly squeezed orange juices and 4 glasses of fresh pressed carrot juices everyday; he did a min of 4 hrs of exercises per day and he avoided red meat, fat and processed carbs; he still got lung cancer even though he didn't smoke or drink as he was a health freak. My mom got GIST after my dad passed away and her cancer grew to 4.5lbwithin 4 months! I noticed 4 years later when the cancer spread all over her body, she demanded more and more sugar and carbs, as if she was hooked on it, from what I read, it wasn't really her who wanted the sugar and carbs, it was the cancer that wanted her to eat them. 🙄

For mouth sores drink cabbage juice. I like the idea of cabbage in vegetable soup.

This is a really, really superb lecture. The breadth of the good Dr's knowledge and his ability to link up mechanistic evidence and systemic effects is something one comes across unfortunately only too rarely in clinicians.

Thank you for this video. With all the clinical trials & evidence based studies out there, not knowing is no excuse for not finding out. Most doctors are loyal and dedicated employees for big pharma.
