How Long Does It Take to Get a Real Estate License?

How long does it take to get a real estate license in California? How long is real estate school? How long does it take to become a real estate agent?

This depends on a few factors. So, let's first learn how you get a real estate license.

To get your real estate license you must:
- Enroll in an accredited real estate school
- Pass each program and get your 3-course certificates
- Schedule your state exam
- Pass the state exam

Real estate school takes 2-months to complete or 54 days. This is the fastest you can complete a pre-requisite program in California. You can take longer in some programs.

Each course is 18-days long. Once you complete each course, you will receive a certificate of completion to serve as proof of your passing grade.

When you receive all 3 certificates, you will have to schedule your state exam test date. This will require you to fill out an application and send it for approval to the Department of Real Estate (DRE).

This approval process usually takes 2-months (4-8 weeks). Notes: Given COVID-19 regulation, this time will take longer than usual. CA Realty Training predicts at least another month in time to process your application. That does not mean you should wait. Submit your application now, so you can schedule your course date as soon as possible.

Additionally, because of COVID-19, testing centers are accepting a limited number of people. As well as this, Oakland testing centers are closed. You can travel to another location to take your state exam.

When you pass the state exam, the DRE will mail you your real estate license. After that, the only thing to do is sign with a brokerage.

In total, this process should take you 4-6 months to complete. That's 4-6 months from enrolling in an accredited real estate school to holding your real estate license in your hands.

Thank you for this video. Super helpful. If I submit my application approval and get a test date 1-2 days out, is there an option where I can take the exam a month out? Thanks again!

So I am 18 and I want to take these approved courses as well and I’m doing bachelors at the same time. Where do I find these courses especially ones that would look good on my resume.

My question is: How long are the 3 certificates/application valid for after DRE cashes my check and the length of time I can take my test (assuming another 2+mos)? My online real estate access expires early November 2020. I mailed my sales combo application in August (first week). My check was just cashed yesterday (Sept 22). This pandemic caused a delay in my ability to apply (closure of DRE and financial hardship do to loss of income to pay the $305). Here's a timeline of my progress: In mid Nov. of 2019 I enrolled in classes. Classes started 1st week of Dec. 2019. I completed everything in March when the pandemic changed all plans to take the test. It was recommended that I hold off on sending in my application packet and money due to the start of the quarantine and businesses closing. Thank you in advance for any help with my question.

I pass the State exam back in 2007, but didn't send the application for the license. Do you know if I can just apply for the license or I need to pass the state exam again?

Do you have to work for a brokerage full-time? What if you already have a full-time job and want to do real estate on the side as a part-time gig, is this something you can do with a brokerage?

I have a question. I’ve done everything. Passed my Ca exam on April 13th and paid the $245 application fee to receive my license. How long will it take to receive my license in hand in order to place it with a broker?
