The key message here is everybody is different and different things work for different people. The secret is to experiment and find out what works for you, don't copy someone else's plan. Also I prefer to work on time ran not distances i.e. if you usually run for 3 hours a week then cut down the time you run to suit, forgetting about miles or kilometers. Also as you age rest becomes even more important than when you are younger. Tapering is more than cutting down the miles or time, it's your sleep, diet etc as Sage mentioned. As for the comments about getting faster what most people don't realize is that the body system changes take years not weeks or months so persistence and consistency is the key. Be patient!

Very good tips. Currently in the process within 3 weeks for my race. I think I almost ready for race day but being cautious.

Lake City is beautiful! I've never even talked with anyone else who's ever heard of it. The first time I was there I made it to the top of Uncompahgre too 👍

What does your camping set-up look like on these trips?  A video on your mobile running headquarters would be neat to see.  I drove out to CO from PA this summer and spent most nights in the National Forest camping out of my car and such.  Great channel, keep up the good work.

Fellrnr recommends not running below race pace during the week before the race, but reducing the mileage. Had pretty good results with embedding a short race pace distance between short warm up & cool downs during taper week, then sitting in airports all day before the race.

Hey Sage,

My goal is sub 3.
With my first and only marathon of 3:37:05 and 8k PR of 33:59, how long might it take to go sub 3 and what initial steps should I take to get there? I'm 22 years old
Thank you!

I probably should have watched this video 4 weeks before my race instead of 4 days before it. At least I won't go out and try to kill it 2 days before, like I was planning!
