i was talking about how these two classmates in my english class said they wanted to get rid of trans people from america. i was pretty much telling the ppl at my lunch table that i didnt understand why some people at our school are so obsessed with trans people. like they're not bothering you so mind your business. this girl (well call her lynn) is friends with the students i was talking about so i guess she felt the need to tell us that she wasnt like that. so she literally pipes up out of nowhere "i would never say that because im autistic so i understand how transgender people feel!"

What gets me about "empaths" is that hyper-empathy is indeed a thing, and it isn't positive or pleasant at all. It tends to develop in situations where a person needs to read someone's emotions well in order to feel safe, such as when a person grew up with an abusive parent and learned to notice warning signs of anger. The reality is that it's not healthy to be aware of the minute changes in everyone's mood all the time, and most people who have developed the ability to do so are coming from a place of overprotecting themselves due to trauma. Glorifying or aspiring to be like that is way out of touch, and ironically not very empathetic at all.
