Unboxing an Oculus Rift VR Headset Bundle!

Just a casual, off the cuff unboxing of an Oculus Rift bundle I just received in the mail. This comes with the headset, two sensors and two controllers.

Agreed very much ik this is old but 400 is the perfect price for what you get and i think is definitely what to start or stay with i personally prefer sculls cause of the weight and controllers

W... what?! WHAT WHAT WHAT?! Austin is getting into VR and has a Rift?! MY MAN! Dude welcome to the cutting edge. Wow. CONGRATS MAN!


So let me just throw some games at you:


Echo Arena: Get this game now. It's free (the multiplayer version of Lone Echo) it's like Rocket League except in zero G. Very polished, very fun. It's a real work out to play and feels wonderful.





Dead Effect 2 VR (Seriously, PICK THIS ONE UP): Yeah it looks like a cheap borderlands. But you know what? It's on VR, that makes it worth playing. Actually uses traditional FPS controls so you can freely slide around. A real excellent feel to it. Has a lot of adjustable options for gameplay too (EZ reload vs manually taking ammo from your torso and putting it into weapons, etc)



Ultrawings: A rather light but fun flying sim. Sorta like Pilotwings. Not a particularly deep game but great as a proof of concept flight sim with touch controls. Using an Ultra-light plane, a rocket-powered glider and a stunt-plane you fly through rings.


Raw Data: This one's a fun wave shooter, very competently built. Has a Metal Gear Solid Cyborg Ninja has a playable character. What's not to love?! The other classes are neat. It feels a bit like Shadow-Run.

I am really looking forward to VR Lets Plays from you Austin. I AM SO PUMPED FOR YOU TO HAVE VR :D



Regarding Sensors: The sensors have a sweet spot range of about 8-10 feet. The best advice I can give you is to MOUNT THEM HIGH. If they're a bit above you they can much more easily track your hands and head. Especially low to the ground when crouching beind cover. The Rift setup application will tell you you to put both your sensors close together infront of you. This isn't really optimal. you want The cameras at 10 and 2 o'clock. Or perhaps even further spaced.


You want to create a good overlap so that when you're turned directly away from your cameras you still have a good chance of everything being tracked. A friend of mine even has his sensor mounted directly above him on the cealing. If that's feisble at all to you.


Additionally, and this is important. You can unscrew the base from the sensor. The threading for the headset is industry standard for camera tripods. So if you have any tripods laying around you can easily mount a sensor to one. I have a drum-stand and a camera tripod with telescoping legs.


Lets talk about your floor. May I reccomend going to Ross/TJMaxx/ETC and getting two or three Yoga mats? You can lay them around your VR space. In addition to being soft on your feet it will also let you use your feet to get an idea of where you are in real-space. This can be very useful when you want to orient your body back to north without having to lift your headset and peak.


Lets talk about your forehead. Do you sweat when you excercise? Because for me the original Oculus Rift foam face liner soaked up a lot of sweat. It became a bit gross and while I tried to clean it and dry it out. . .yesh. Anyway. VR Covers (company) makes a third party face gasket that has a mesh cushion rather than dense foam. The mesh cushion isn't as meaty but it also dries out much quicker and seems to stay cleaner. The mesh cushion also comes with a cloth jacket that straps on.


If for whatever reason you lose your video feed to your headset or it gets stuck with a white Hourglass. if you go to Settings -> Devices and then click the button at the bottom that says "Beta" you can Reboot the headset and application to see if that fixes it. Sometimes you just gotta reboot so they can resync.

Hey good video, I got one too! I wanted to ask you if you can test the black levels in the change lens spacing tab which show the green cross? I want to know if you see pure black or almost black or if you have some kind of green dots where there should be black like a layer of dust. Thank you

Gratz on the rift man, I have a psvr but I haven't used it much because you have to keep swapping cables to use HDR on your tv. I have played batman arkham vr, thumper, and Robinson the journey and have really enjoyed vr besides that hardware issue with the playstation vr. Anyway, what are some of the games you have played and if you can recommend them, also I am curious if you tried the pinball stuff yet. I am sure you will enjoy that purchase they are really immersive, you just can't sum it up in words how amazing they are.
