This Insulation Is Made From Mushrooms

These mushrooms aren’t for eating. They’re for insulating tiles to use for construction. A company in Brussels, Belgium is making the mushrooms using straw and coffee grounds. They get grounds delivered to them from partner cafes around the country. They mix them up, add the spores, and after 15 days, the mushrooms are harvested. Not only is this process innovative, but it can cut down on plastic waste. Inside Edition Digital’s Andrea Swindall has more.

Where I come from we don’t throw the coffee, we poor it on plants to make them grow faster

My mom would use coffee grounds and crushed egg shells to fertilize her plants 🪴! The plants grew like crazy. Our home always looked lush, green and like the everglades😁‼️

That’s the same way we grow magic mushrooms. Anyone can do it. It’s easy and safe.

Does it soften noise? Is it more economical than regular insulation? Because the downstairs tenants and I can hear everything we do and say. 🙄🙄🙄🙄

It's way way way better than using fiberglass

The speciality of this and the potential issues it could cause will make the lifetime maintenance of the structure a nightmare for owner. The best insulation in the world is actually an air barrier within your wall. Literal nothingness is more efficient than mushrooms. So this is a cool idea but seems like more trouble that benefit

Not a terrible idea I would expand it more and use some clay dirt to experiment with bricks or a more solid form of material

What if water gets into it? Won't that kick start the growth of fungus
