Is Moving to Portugal Still Worth it in 2024?

Показать описание
Moving to Portugal in 2024 comes at a time when financial incentives such as the NHR regime and golden visas are almost completely phased out, shifting the focus for expats towards the intrinsic values of residing in this country. The true allure of expat life in Portugal lies in its deep-rooted traditions, welcoming expat communities, and the diverse landscapes that enrich the experience of living in Portugal. For those contemplating such a move, grasping the cultural and regional variations is vital for a seamless transition and enjoyment of the Portuguese lifestyle. As living costs adjust, expats must realign their expectations with the current economic and cultural landscape of Portugal. This time marks a significant transition for expats moving to Portugal, moving away from financial motivations to embracing the authentic lifestyle and opportunities Portugal has to offer, paving the way for a fulfilling life abroad.

I have worked in 11 countries on 3 continents and for me Portugal is the best country to live.

I love Braga. I have already decided that this will be my city to live in for the next few years.
However, Portugal is only worth it for those who have income from other countries. Other than that, it's just working to pay the rent.
Unfortunately, people think they can live abroad without some cash reserves and good planning.

There's been terrible inflation everywhere. There's no escaping it.

For retiree's the amount of tax paid on their fixed income is very important in terms of living standards and may in the past chosen Portugal because it's tax system is favourable.
Personally, I will not be retiring in Portugal because I have no intention of giving the govt up to 40% of my income and receive next to nothing in return in terms of public services.
That's a bad deal. I'm looking to Spain or Greece.

Living in semi rural Australia for most of my life has made me extremely lenient when it comes to deliveries. Same month delivery is good enough .

Rafael, I'm very curious if you've encountered the "barking dog situation" I've heard so much about, the constant sound of dogs barking because they're left out on balconies and such? It seems to be a thing all over Portugal. If you mentioned this in another video, sorry but I missed it.

Not deterred, still moving to Porto. We'll be there in 2 months and have been looking forward to this new adventure for 5 years.

Sorry, Umbria Abruzzo Sicily and Calabria is where it's at. I'll be retiring in a few years and Portugal is out of the question. Same goes for Rome Florence and any of these places that investors have made it hard for the locals to live

In Portugal is common knowledge that in Porto "foda-se" is used as comma in sentences...

My tax rate would go from 24% to 48%. I can't pretend that's nothing.

I fear that at this point it's a sinking ship. Socialism is slowly ruining this country. You have to have certain high demand skills to keep up with the wealth tax
