One of the biggest benefits of living here is that you don’t need to pay hefty deposits and high rental prices like elsewhere - which makes Portugal one of the best places to move if your budget is tight. Plus, no matter where you want to stay, there's always plenty of choice available. This is one of the important things to know before moving to Portugal.
So whether you're after traditional terracotta-roofed cottages overlooking olive groves or modern waterfront apartments with stunning mountain views - Portugal has it all at a price that won't hurt your wallet!
But why exactly is rent so cheap? Most locals will tell you its because cost of living isn’t too high either; groceries are inexpensive compared with other parts of Europe and utilities bills remain low throughout most areas. It also helps that salaries are relatively low too - meaning rental properties tend not be as expensive as they could be otherwise.

CORRECTION: Rents are expensive and deposits are required, sometimes 6 months worth. A 1 bedroom flat can cost 2, 000 Euros a month.
There is a SERIOUS shortage of properties to rent in cities, even bedrooms in someone's home can be around 1, 000 Euros a month.
Locals are being priced out, what is "affordable" for people with high foreign income is out of reach for the portuguese.
Minimum salary is only 760 Euros per month, before taxes, and more than 50% of the working population have to live on the minimum wage.
There is a serious shortage of workers at all levels in big towns and Algarve because workers cannot affod to live there, even doctors, nurses & teachers have difficulty finding places to rent at a price they can afford.
