New to photography, been using Lightroom for about 6 months now. This video was helpful for me deciding that I need to make the switch to Lightroom Classic. Thanks!

Thanks, that was really helpful as I am starting my lightroom journey on 3 Jan 2021 and have downloaded a free version of Lightroom with reduced features and wondered why it looked a bit different to what I have seen online. I think I will stick with non-classic any maybe I need Photoshop also for focus stacking and printing.

I really like the new LR. Especially because I use it as my main on iPad when traveling etc. but there are a few things I’m struggling with
1) how do you extend cloud storage?
2) how do you create favorite presets?/
3) it seems they allow you only 1 local folder for storage. Can’t split between drives…. Would be great to be able to have scale across drives

Hi Terry
Brilliant stuff. Love your MasterClasses.
I have been using Lightroom Cloud (Lr) since it started a few years ago and now want to switch to Lightroom Classic (LrC). Is there an easy way to get all my full resolution photos from Lr in the cloud to LrC on my hard Drive?

Great video, thank you. When working in LrC and use camera calibration. Do settings from that feature sync up w the smart preview? Put differently, would Lr recognize the camera calibration edits made in LrC?

Great comparison of the two programs but unfortunately I still fall into two categories. I missed this live performance and have so many questions.

Thank you for this, I should have switched to CC a long time ago.

Can you save photo from Lrc to desk top then load it onto Lr from desk top, to save on cloud ?

For me the question was if my internet connection is sketchy how will that effect my usage? I've used LR since 2010 and stopped upgrading at LR4. BUT now I have a new computer and Adobe doesn't have a dl link to download it onto my new laptop. Almost a deal breaker. We'll see how it goes. LrC for now. Thanks for the walk through.

Great video Terry, as always. However, I was looking for a specific issue I'm trying to understand/fix that I have searched high and low on the internet/YouTube and just cannot find the answer too. And I hope, hope, hope that the legendary Terry White may know!! So in a nutshell - Round tripping between LR (not LrC) and PS I just cannot get to work correctly. The edited file ends up in a local Adobe Temp folder. I've heard about ensuring my viewing method in LR is not the cause (i.e. Collections/Filtered view etc), and interestingly, once LR interacts PS to open up with my file to edit, if I close it within seconds of it opening, the file does replicate back into LR. But for any length of time, that workflow seems to break. Any suggestions!!?? Thanks in advance.

Hey there! College Lightroom instructor here as well. There's a discrepancy. In your graphic and explanation at about 24:00 you indicate that 20GB of originals do sync upwards from Lr Classic. However, at about 42:00 you indicate "Lr Classic never ever ever syncs upwards full size originals - only ever smart previews - PERIOD."

I appreciate your content Terry. I'm in the Atlanta area. Do you do mentorship? I'm a photographer and graphic designer and I understand the importance of mentorship and am looking for a mentor.

If you start with one can you switch to the other?

Why Lightroom Classic is now so slow to start? Open Catalog and you need to wait many minutes until UI response.

Great video, very detailed.

Sure, Classic still has a few features the cloud version does not, but can Adobe really not make those features happen? Please...
Also, those extra "modules" from Classic? Yeah... those kinda suck, might as well get rid of them, and many other tools do what those modules do... way better.

I mean, we're supposed to choose between what seems to be a software made in the 90's that does what people want but is too bloated, and an awesome version that has it all (or 95%) but just doesn't allow local storage and we are required to purchase super expensive cloud storage, forgoing the ever trusted hard drives?

But my biggest complaint about this debate is the consistency, or the lack thereof. If Adobe truly wants to keep two versions of the same thing (develop/edit photos), at least keep the interface similar, you know... like the rest of the Adobe software?

The way i see it, and i'm sure many others do too, Adobe could solve this predicament in two ways:
1. Update Lightroom Classic interface to match the other Adobe software.
2. Give Lightroom (cloud) the ability to do selective sync so as to keep photos locally and only send the selected ones to the cloud

Sorry about the huge comment, i know you are not in charge of the Lightroom team or anything, and your video was actually really well put together, but this is just such a sore point and we keep bringing it to Adobe but nothing gets done. Maybe this is just how it will be and i might as well just go to Capture One and leave Lightroom for good.
