Living my Dream Life but still Unhappy

I believed that moving to a different state, getting the house of my dreams near nature, working part time, and getting healthier would all make me happy, and I literally surrounded my ideas, thoughts, my emotions and my entire being into getting this dream, and I refused to live in the now. I become depressed for not getting what I wanted and it actually almost ruined my relationship with my partner. I had an epiphany a few months ago, that no matter what I obtain, no matter where I go, I will always be unhappy unless I'm happy where I am now. There is nothing that I can obtain that would make me happy. If you're not happy where you are, you will not be happy where you go. So, I started to be grateful for EVERYTHING in my life, literally everything. A fresh shower after a long day, the cool breeze coming thorough my window on a crisp fall morning, having electricity, a loving partner, 3 adorable cats. I deal with chronic pain every single day along with a ton of mental health problems and I can honestly say that I LOVE MY LIFE! This is coming from someone who used to be suicidal and depressed as well. Life is not about the grandiose things, its not about vacations, fancy restaurants, huge outings. It's truly, all about the small things in your daily life

Been married 57 years to my High School sweetheart- live on a beautiful clear river in Florida- have two healthy children and five wonderful grandchildren- have 4 siblings who live out here by me and we are extremely close and get our extended families together(about 60) several times a year. Sounds perfect doesn’t it? There was still unrest in my spirit and I realized I needed God in my daily life and also I needed to serve others and lift others spirits who were lonesome or just needed company on their down days. Our purpose is not just our dreams but helping others on their journey.

At 70, I'm trenendously grateful to be maintaining good health and mobility. I'm grateful to have a functioning car and bicycle. And I'm grateful for an uncomplicated and supportive homelife. Also, grateful to have found you, Kalle. You are such a warm and guileless young man. I wish you increasing self-awareness of how you have built a wonderful life for yourself and enjoyment of every moment.

My husband and I moved 13 years ago and simplified our life. I am so grateful we did that! I am grateful for the simple rhythms that life has created. I am also grateful that my husband and I still enjoy being together and living life together after 33 years.

I am Canadian and I’m just coming from a month of volunteering with an animal shelter in Ukraine. I came to Romania to adopt a dog to bring to my friend in Canada. Because of Lufthansa and their incredibly inept customer service, I now have a flight which he can not come on. The last 24 hours have been soul crushing. I found your video and I’m crying. I’m grateful for so much in my life after this experience. I feel like I’ve failed miserably with my mission to make a difference for this one dog. I don’t have the money to buy another flight to Canada, but I’m not giving up. I needed this video to help me take a deep breath and accept what is happening and not keep breathing myself up. Thank you for this.

I live in a small farmhouse in the middle of a large ancient woodland, miles from neighbours in the Highlands of Scotland. To many people it seems the Dream Life, but very few people realise how much hard work this is. People are always searching for Happiness. Kalle, forget the pursuit of happiness, for it is not a constant state. Seeking happiness and believing it will be found in the state of gratitude is often a folly.... Instead, seek Purpose. Gratitude is a very positive emotion, but it is Purpose that makes a life worthwhile. Find Purpose and your whole life will change .
Having Purpose is so much bigger than ourselves. When you create a life of purpose you will never seek the state of happiness again. .

I think being grateful, appreciation of others, and savoring the moment really helps alleviate depression. Not just focused on the outcome but also enjoying the journey... because most of life is the journey.

That's what I really needed right now, thank you! I've been so unhappy with my current situation, seeing people like you who live a life I want to live and myself being stuck in my current job... So what am I grateful for: 1. Not having to worry about money and having a secure job in the hard times right now. 2. Being relatively healthy and being able to do a lot of physical activities/sports. 3. I'm grateful that I already live quiet remotely (at least for German standards) at the end of a small road in a scenic village.... So I guess I should be happy. Thanks again, Kalle! And now Imma head outside and enjoy the cold and sunny weather.

I am so blessed. I'm in my 40's and I recently lost the ability to walk, so this video was perfect for me at this time in my life. I'm so grateful for my five kids, my loving and incredibly supportive husband, I'm grateful for my imagination and creativity and my true friends. I feel like these are the things that make life full.

1. Cancer free for 6 years
2. A loving, happy and supporting family
3. Two whippet boys who make my days
Gratitude is such a positive attitude but it is not necessarily innate, but it can be learned ! We appreciate the highlights of life after having experienced lows.

Fully agree. Gratitude is the key. My life isn't perfect either but taking 10 mins a day to meditate based on gratitude makes me see how many things are amazing and how motivating the challenges ahead are. Regardless of results.
I'm grateful for being able to earn my living working for myself and chosing where and how long I work each day. For being able to take my son to his daycare every morning. And for being married to a true life partner with whom we built the life we want, step by step.
Best to you Kalle!! And to everyone!

I just found your channel today and I am so grateful for this video. When I think back of my dreams 5 years ago I can now see that almost all came true. I also realize that I often miss what I had then because I seldom took the time to be grateful and live in that moment.

Three things I am grateful for:
1) I have adopted two amazing senior dogs this year. And this video reminded me to spend even more time enjoying their company.
2) I go to sleep with no worries on my mind. I used to be in debt for my entire adult life, but was able to pay them off. It makes such a difference to not do calculations to see if I can pay for food before sleeping.
3) I live in a city I always wanted to move to in a home with a roof terrace and a bath. And even though I already want to move somewhere else, I am grateful that I experience living here now.

I feel less lost because of this video. Thank you so much.
