I’m an advisor over two software engineering groups and a group with data scientists and data engineers. One thing I’ve found is that if you have even a year as a software engineer, you have a solid understanding of the lifecycle, and that will make your life as a data scientist or data engineer much better!

Data Science is like Batman, donning a cape of statistical prowess and harnessing the power of algorithms to fight the forces of uncertainty. Meanwhile, Software Engineering is Robin, the trusty sidekick, armed with lines of code and ready to bring structure and efficiency to Batman's data-driven adventures. Together, they form a dynamic duo.
Data scientists, (Batman), enjoy impressive salaries as their analytical prowess unlocks valuable insights, while software engineers(Robin), provide essential support with good job security, constructing the digital infrastructure that keeps the crime-fighting team running smoothly.

Great analysis. Just adding that software engineers also optimize. In fact, they optimize and fix more than they build. And that's where the stress comes from because things tend to break or is compatible with some devices, platforms and clients/browsers but not others . Or those that were previously compatible have updated and are no longer abiding.programming is always evolving and functions get deprecated and frameworks outdated. So if you don't upgrade your knowledge to the new technologies, you become unemployable .Statistics and math are consistent, you just need to learn them once.

I took the postgraduate in Data Science and Analytics business, because I wanted learn machine learning and AI and yes I got it. Obviously with +12 working in IT, was easy to learn; but what surprised when I sent my resume to many companies that offered job like DS or SW Engineering I was rejected because I don't have experience in this subject. jajajajaa. Well, expert in SQL, ETL, databases, dashboarding, code and working with technologies more complicated like SAP and I was rejected.Maybe I had to say that I didn't know anything about technology to enter as a junior.... that's incredible.

Wow, I have seen one of the best presenters on YouTube.
Obviously from your communication and presentation skill, I will strongly say you are a good fit for the data science role. Nice one and keep up the good work. Hopefully someday we work as a team of data scientists, Lol😂

Although my job title is Data Scientist, I do write code which will eventually (hopefully) get pushed to production. Since I own the code, my manager will totally call me at 2am to fix it if something breaks. This hasn't happened yet and hopefully never will, but I don't see it as a rarity. If you're working on an app that's crucial to the company and the app incorporates data science/machine learning functionality, be prepared to get your beauty sleep ruined if stuff goes wrong and it's your fault.

If you don't like math and data analysis and you still want to switch to a data role then choose data engineer role.
