Interesting video. I think a lot of people needed this. Long story short I am switching careers and going into Data Analysis and Data Science. Trust me, I am very skeptical, and have put a lot of thought into this. I want to make sure I am making the right decision. I have come to basically the same conclusions as you with a few caveats...
Data Analysis ( pulling, preparing, some analysis, display of data) will become much more streamlined and require fewer people, and performed faster. But you still NEED to know the core skills, just not be an expert at it. Salaries will go down some, but more applications will be found needing more people so salaries will be somewhat stabilized. ( Microsoft Fabric is one streamlined application but will not be applicable in all situations.)
Data Science ( less Data Analysis and more algorithms and machine learning) will be more streamlined also but less so. The people doing Data Analysis will be able to move QUICKER into Machine Learning skills and experience, and companies will like or request it. So higher salaries will be supported somewhat. (Microsoft Fabric again)
This is still a high-growth field in terms of applications ( think IOT). That is not going away I think for a long time.
If generative AI streamlines work in Data Analysis and Data Science, that leaves much more time to learn new skills like Data Engineering, Software Engineering, Cloud Tech, etc.

that was really informative! when I started my journey I knew it's not going to be easy in tech but if I have curiosity and mindset of never stop learning I can achieve anything!

Thank you. I'm doing my last year in my degree. I've been playing with machine learning and openai. I was wondering how I might turn this into a career. Great video.

another great video Greg, I appreciate your industry insights. I am a newer analyst (2 years in now) and wondering how to stay relevant in the future with the recent shakeups. I think this is valuable information and a roadmap

I am a Public Accountant, but I don't live in the United States. I want to change careers and was leaning towards Data Science. However, considering my current decent salary and the option of freelancing for extra income, I am now undecided. I enjoy programming. What are your thoughts on pursuing a career as a Python developer, in Data Science, or in Web development?

Hey Greg, Can you please do a complete roadmap for computer vision like the one you did for data science 🙏

So do i gain a strong foundation in software engineering before advancing to data science? Is that full proof?

How about becoming a data analyst? Is it better for beginners to pick a different career path?

Too bad chatgpt cant give you the 3-5 years pofessional work paid-for experience you need to get your first job

ChatGPT can't plan and reason, so it can't be an engineer. Also its not more clever than people, so it can't fully replace jobs. Clever is harder, engineer is easier i think,

hey greg, do you think is more easy to get a Machine Learning Engineer job as a software Engineer or as a data Scientist?

Thank you so much for this video. It gave me a lot to think about as I progress thru my undergraduate years.

Hi, Greg. What do you think will be more relevant and in demand in the next 5-10 years, machine learning engineering or data engineering?

people forget this things are just starting out. just imagine in few years how advanced chatgpt would be.

Wouldn't MLOps be a bit of both?

Edit: Nevermind, it sounds like you're saying data science roles require software engineering skills as well.
