If we domesticated dire wolves they wouldn't stay big. One of the first things that happened when wolves started to become dogs is they became smaller, because a smaller wolf needs less food and is easier to handle. A dog descended from dire wolves probably wouldn't be that different than a normal dog, probably just a bit more heavily built.

Misconception about dire wolves. They are more muscular and had denser bones than the modern wolf, but dire wolves were not taller at the shoulder or longer than the modern wolf. In fact, their limbs were actually shorter.

I was in Alaska running down the highway returning to Anchorage from the border checkpoint. I topped a hill that dropped down into a large valley. visibility was excellent, you could see across the whole valley. About 3 miles or so ahead of me was the biggest wolf i have ever seen. It stretched across one whole lane of the highway, It was grey and brown in color with a large tail. The animal walked across the road and went into the forest, it was gone by the time i got to the point where it was. Its walk was dog like and not bear like. Thats the best description i can give you.
