The most dangerous extinct cat of the Pleistocene epoch – Smilodon also known as the Saber Toothed Tiger faces off with the Dire Wolf. Watch the video to see a direct size comparison between Smilodon Gracilis, Fatalis & Populator and the biggest wolf that ever existed – Dire Wolf. They lived during the same Pleistocene Epoch also known as the Ice Age and roamed the same land – North and South America. Who would win if they encountered one another in the wild? This video will hopefully help you decide.

Everyone is comparing a pack of dire wolves vs. a single Smilodon. News flash, Smilodons lived in packs/prides TOO. They were very social

Some of the largest wolves today are about 36 in tall at the shoulder and weigh about 175 lbs (or the largest one recorded was). A dire wolf I imagine would be at least that for an average wolf. The dire wolf was believed to live in packs of about 30 individuals and had a more powerful bite than even today's wolves who can bite through the bones of moose and bison. (I don't really like imagining and arguing 'who would win'. That can get very ugly. All these animals deserve respect.)

The sabertooth would win in a strait up one on one, but most of the time the cat would be alone and the wolves would be in a pack. He'd be out numbered.

Dire Wolfs were living in a pride, look what a pride of hyenas do to a single lion!

He asked who do we think would win?
I thought that is what the video was going to tells us🤔

My fourteen pound Jack Russell treed a mountain lion on the property. Cats of all kinds are *horrified* of dogs. The Smilodon would be more confident in a fight with a short faced bear. Sabertooth would win if it had to fight, but in all realistic scenarios the Dire Wolf would have friends and scare the cat away. Just my .02.

Smilodon and dire wolves both lived in packs both remains have been found with healed wounds that would kill both animals if alone both pack sizes would vary the mapogo lion brothers ruled over several prides in the sabi sands reserve with numbers nearing a hundred and the druid wolf pack reached a number of 37 wolves so I imagine a coalition of saber tooth Brothers would rule over several prides and a pack of dire wolves can reach in numbers close to 40 even and I imagine alot of territorial disputes would happen both these super packs need lots of food and I guess it would be similar to how lions and hyenas fight with the wolves or the saber tooth picking 1 at a time with the sabers being able to kill wolves in 1 swipe while the wolves could tear one saber into pieces in a group.

wolves are superior as they always hunt in pack irl. But in a 1v1 saber beats wolf . But that doesn’t matter as direwolves always won. A pack of dire wolves will quickly overpower a saber

Dire Wolf of course. The Saber's fangs were just too long and awkward. They had weak bites. A Dire Wolf would make quick work of a saber.

One on one, the saber tooth would win. Would a pack attack a single saber tooth? Har to tell. I think they tended to stay away from each other.

Dire wolf has his pack so the tiger would lose. Even without his pack the tiger hunts by surprise and if not ambushed the wolf is tough and a lot bigger than this video shows

A roar of a saber tooth could make dire wolf's retreats

These things are much smaller than I thought.. I thought they were the size of elephants.

Dire wolves hunted ground sloths, horses, bison, camels, and mastodons on the American Landscape which looks amazing and interesting.

Smilodon is not "known" as as Sabertooth Tiger. It's like I would make a video about "maneless" lion's and refer Tiger as that.

Stop promoting this "sabertooth tiger" nonsense.

Dire wolves were pack hunters and they could defeat a single Smilodon Fatalis

It depends, if the smilodon was in a pack of 5 vs 10 dire wolfs I would say the smilodons would win judging by there extreme speed and strength.
