Its very important to drink all wines holding the glass by the stem. Holding the glass by the cup with the warmth of your hand you alter the temperature of the wine and therefore also the flavour. Be careful

I grew up on the Moselle, a wineregion in Germany. My grandfather was a winemaker. It's almost unbearable for me to see people mishandling their wine glass.

I think that it has become a bit too pretentious these days to hold the glass like it's shown in the last position. Best to be somewhere in the middle and add more with posture and how you drink it.
