I am a new web developer, working on my first site and I had purchased SSL from my hosting company but was baffled at why my site was still not secure. I was sent the link to this video and I am very grateful for your guidance! thanking you very much.

For those who might be having issues, it's important to note that Hostgator doesn't seem to give the SSL certificate as soon as you add the domain to cpanel, so everyone should wait a few hours if you're adding the domain to cpanel for the first time before installing wordpress and activating the plugin (not sure if the video mentioned this, I can't do videos with audio).

I installed wordpress and this plugin before I had received the SSL certificate from hostgator, so ran into problems and many more steps it was asking me. So for those who ran into issues, I had to start over, removed the domain and all remnants of it from cpanel (uninstalled wordpress, went to SSL/TSL in cpanel menu and deleted any mentions of the domain under "Private Keys (Key)" and "CERTIFICATES (CRT)"), so started with a clean slate.

Then re-added the domain, checked in "CERTIFICATES (CRT)" and saw that the domain was not listed in there, so Hostgator hadn't given me the SSL certificate as soon as I added the domain. Waited a few hours then checked under there again and saw it was now listed under there, meaning I was then given the certificate. I then reinstalled wordpess and the plugin and it installed ok this time without prompting for additional steps.

However, it's still not redirecting properly, even though it's saying in the Really Simple SSL plugin that everything is OK. If I go to the HTTPS version of the site, it says secure, but it's not redicting there when typing in the domain into my browser without HTTPS before. I'm looking into other plugins or ways to force it instead.

Is there any way to add SSL for free? It basically costs just as much as the hosting plan and I already purchased a plan for 3 years...

Thanks for the video. After installing the Simple SSL plug-in, a Google Font I was using got replaced with a default font and images on the page aren't loading. I use Divi as my theme and I tried clearing the cache, but the images refuses to load (even after re-uploading them) and the font sometimes renders correctly. Not consistently, however.

EDIT:
I installed SSL Insecure Content, but didn't seem to fix anything. I noticed the font was being retrieved from an http url, so I reuploaded it and that was fixed. The images have https URLs in WordPress Media library, but it still isn't appearing on the page. I passed Why No Padlock and it says that I have no mixed content.

Hey thank you for the tutorial. Quick question, with the new Wordpress update, should I remove this plugin and use Wordpress’s automatic SSL stop or should I keep it?

I get that getting your site to run HTTPS is part of securing the front end of your web site, but doesn't this usually have to work in tandem with a certificate that is installed in the back end or run through a separate service ?
