Atomic Force Microscope

An atomic force microscope (AFM) taps on samples with a tiny probe, instead of using light like a regular microscope. They can generate 3D images with nanometer precision.

The AFM in this video is an nGauge by ICSPI

Its been 5 minutes but I still cant get over the fact that we just got rickrolled by a digital image of a microscopic surface

"Only achieve millimeter level accuracy" is quite the subtle flex

He just Rickrolled all of us in Pico meter scale.

Worked with an AFM for my internship! Was quite cool! The one we used doesnt actually touch the material but instead the forces from the material act on the cantilever, slightly changing the frequency of the oscillation with respect to the resonance frequency. Its quite interesting! And hard to distinguish all the different force gradients since they all act on the tip at the same time

I used to do actual AFM and always thought it would be cool to make a macroscopic version for teaching purposes. Very cool!

No fucking way I got Rick rolled by an educational video

Those AFM tips break all the time and it’s a pain but they give you some incredible images.

This is incredibly impressive

Wild to think there's a whole branch of microscope technology that's using the equivalent of the "close your eyes and hold out your hand" method of identifying things 😂

So this is how it feel to be rickrolled on microscopic level

Thats fucking badass that you made one that produces a good image

and there are people on this planet that unironically believe we could not build the pyramids

A microscope that works like a record player? Must've been a hit in the science community.

I still keep getting blown away by how "sci-fiy" our modern technology is.

I’m currently an undergraduate in physics and my department just got a new one

my guy just built a large version of the microscope just to make the youtube shorts explanation make more sense. kudos sir

These shorts are my favorite right now. Well done.

When I was being trained on the AFM, I played with the unlabeled knob till I could hear the AFM screaming. I don't do experiments any more.
