I am a bedside nurse, and people are quitting where I work, we are over worked underpaid and the stress we endure is pathetic. Nurses and NT are burnt, we are asking for a raise and the answer is always we don't have in our budget while the CEO is minting money. The senior management is drinking the company Kool-aid so no support from them. I am with the McDonald workers good for them for walking out they know they worth.

Ironically McDonald's paid out $4.91/share in dividends in 2020. WIth around 743.5M shares outstanding, that's $3.6B in dividends paid out to shareholders, but its SO common for McDonald's to pay such low wages to employees. They could increase pay without a significant adverse effect on earnings.

24 employees working 8 hour shifts at $9.25 is $1776, at $10.00 it's $1920. A difference of $144 per day. The average McDonald's franchise pulls down 7k a day in sales. The bad press, the hurting of your community, the money it's going to take to recruit new workers and the potential to have to close....what are these people thinking?? You can't afford, with multiple restaurants, to lose 144 a day? Ridiculous. I made 6.25 an hour at Mcdonalds 20+ years ago...it hasn't gone up much. Also mad props to the manager who spearheaded the walkout and helped them find a job.

It's not a labor shortage. People are just sick of being fleeced by employers. And thrown out when things get rough.

Most of these franchise owners are actually companies that own hundreds of franchises. They already have an 85%+ turn-over rate which tells you they don't care about people. Not surprised that they told the workers to take a hike. Down here in FL McD's, BK, and others are starting at $11 an hour which is still peanuts.

It's funny Costco has now raised their minimum wage to 17 dollars an hour. The CEO who raised all of his employees yearly salary to 70, 000 six years ago, his company is thriving.

This literally just happened at my job. They would prefer to LOSE an experienced worker than pay a $1 more.
And then they end up paying that extra dollar for a less experienced replacement. Makes ZERO sense.

As a USW factory worker, I can’t tell you how much I appreciate both of your unrelenting advocacy for the working class!!!

There is chatter on Reddit that workers are trying to organize a Black Friday strike.

15 bucks an hour is nothing. It's literally the new 5 bucks an hour of old. This is just the beginning of a new depression our country is headed towards.

McDonalds in Demark make $22.00 an hour, and get six weeks paid vacation plus they have univeral healthcare. Why are American workers being squeezed especially in the country where McDonalds started?

I'm from just south of there. Sadly the people that reside in Bradford don't believe in living wages. The vitriol they were spewing during this was abhorrent. Im glad these people found something worth their time.

Danish salary at a McDonald's is 18 US dollars. And that is considered a very shitty salary here in Denmark.

The entire town should boycott that McDonald's; they are not a part of the community, it is part of a franchise portfolio where the money is exported out of their community.

Wow - a lot of conservatives upset that people are bootstrapping themselves. Color me shocked.

That's not an uplifting story at all.
$10/hr wont buy a damn thing in this economy.

If I owned a Wendy’s or DQ in Bradford I would be making a huge deal about giving my staff a raise and have the local media talking about how I support locals. 🤷‍♀️

Same thing happened to me :/ left chipotle as a service manager because they “could not afford” to pay me $16 (keep in mind this is in California) I quit later that month along with another manager and about a month later my same position starts at $17

There should be a national retail and service worker walk out on Black Friday.

My daughter was in a similar situation, worked for MCD's for 3 years at or around $10 an hour while all the other MCD's in the area were paying $12+ and probably more now. She stuck around only because of the college tuition assistance. She hated it and was treated poorly and they worked her like crazy often scheduling her for closing shifts and the next morning the opening shift which she said is against the rules. She's a super hard worker but she was too stubborn to speak up for herself or switch to another McD's. But we finally convinced her to apply at a local liquor store chain and she is now making $15 and was offered a full-time position with a raise. But again being the stubborn kid she is, she may have waited too long to accept and missed out on going full time since they just hired two new people. She's a stubborn knucklehead that thinks she knows everything about the world but is too afraid to do anything about it. McD's loves to take advantage of these kids with this mentality.
