I've tried low dose 5-HT a couple of times, and each time I have been nauseous and sick. There seems to be a correlation of IBS type symptoms and nausea with 5-HTP too - so the effect is really variable.

You must supplement with L-Tyrosine if you use 5-Htp and vice-versa.
Dopamine and Serotonin are on a shared axis, if you increase one, it forces down the other. Therefore, supplementation of these 2 neurochemicals must be simultaneous. Tyrosine in the morning empty stomach, 5Htp at night at least 2 hours after last meal - empty stomach.

I take 100 mg of 5-HTP + 10mg B6 + Magnesium in one pill and I felt the improvement of my mood within 2 days! I was struggling with PMDD and wanted to find something to help me to go through this period. It has been 2 weeks now and I feel perfect. Usually specifically in those 2 weeks I feel depressed, can cry a lot and feel overstimulated by everything. This is an amazing supplement! However, pay attention to B6 doses, because 21mg per day is the maximum healthy dose. More than 21mg of B6 per day can cause health issues. Please check if you don't take too much.

I just tried 5-HTP as a suggestion for ME/CFS/ Long Covid. 100mg - I suffered heart palpitations for hours on end, had insomnia, and began to feel depressed (I was not depressed before, but have always had trouble sleeping). It was a nightmare. 5-HTP seems to work well for many people, but could alsobbe a disaster, depending on your unique metabolism and neuro state.

By advising people to supplement with L tryptophan and 5HTP, you only increase serum concentration of serotonin which is carcinogenic and cardiotoxic! If you look to recent data, you will notice, the reason SSRI works so good, because of selectivity to specific serotonergic receptor in the brain, does not increase serum concentration of sertonin in the body!!

Something to be aware of serotonin is linked to a bunch of negatives, anxiety & autism for example, so maybe not the best supplement, serotonin syndrome kills people and is decently common, which points to it as something risky to raise

Some recent studies blew the lid off the serotonin hypothesis of antidepressants, (ppl with depression tend to have normal levels of serotonin already, their serotonin countering receptor tends to have lower response)

I recently quit alcohol and I've been using 25mg daily, I didn't know it causes you to lose motivation. I'm very driven in my career, exercise, and goals. Will this dosage cause me to lose motivation? I haven't felt unmotivated at all so far but I just started taking it.
