I don't know that taking out a second insurance for medi vac only will work because most insurance policies will automatically make you use both insurance companies for the initial claim and they will cover the cost (in this instance the medi vac portion) equally.

We noticed this when we went overseas and took out insurance and had to claim. The insurance company wanted to know if we qualified for insurance under our credit card and claimed from them for part of the cost. So we had two insurance companies paying for the one claim.

My wife and I have annual insurance through our insurance agent. It covers us for all travel, either driving around the country, flights or cruising. It's also handy because we don't have to worry about organising it before each trip.

A medivac from Antarctica is much more expensive. I just got back from an expedition there with Hurtigruten and I had to show that I had special evac ins. Most insurance companies do not cover it from there so you have to ask specifically. luckily I found one that did.

My brother in law died of cancer 4 days after his had no clue he had cancer as he had had no was admitted to hospital with what they thought was pneumonia but when he didn't respond to the IV antibiotics they did a scan and found he was riddled with cancer. He had been working hard for decades and walking 10 ks a day guiding hunting parties and Conservation scientists through the mountains, living rough in huts and camping no loss of energy, no pain, no weight loss - he was thin and wiry anyway. And he was only sick the last week of his life with what he thought was the you just never know.

Also if you have pre existing conditions and have been treated at any point in the last 12 months and then that condition pops up while you're on a cruise they will not pay for anything it's a scam

Yep had that happen to me this time I bought additional policy with a million dollar evacuation policy

We purchase a medical evacuation policy/ membership in addition to our (third party) travel insurance. The company our family uses is Med Jet.
