The game was fun, but you really should look at their update history. You may think it is an game with great possibilities but you will wait year after year hoping the dev will realease an big content update but it will not happend. The latest big update was the UI, that took an whole year with no other content updates and still no big content update. So be carefule, have read many reviews that claim that this game has big possibility of becoming big but miss that this game has been out since 2019 and even earlier if you where an backer. Yet no big progression...

Sometimes not having any danger can be a selling point. If I just want to chill and build a city, looking at my villagers, and not be up against a clock or watch children die of starvation because the winter was bad.

I love the laid back games like this.... For a while. I build one big city then never touch it again. Banished was a good example of this - loved it for 6 hours then uninstalled.
Maybe I've got issues.

There’s lots of war in WARSIM, which is kind of like a city-builder, except the city is your entire kingdom, my liege!

Finally a non tile based city builder!

finally.... I've been waiting for a casual city builder like this for my lazy days, though I would prefer if removing enemies was an option until you feel comfy enough with the game mechanics, like in 7 days to die.
Another excellent vid Mac💪💪
Also I don't know if you ever played it, but retro review of Heroes of Might and Magic 3 would bring some really good memories to a lot of your viewers I'm sure 😉
Keep up the great work 👍

I tried this game a while ago so its possible its changed from my first impression, but as its stands I actually didn't like this game despite being a fan of sandbox builders. The main reason was I didn't think it was very repeatable because there is a very obvious chain of building you have to follow so every time you play it, you end up doing the exact same thing. The fun of builders for me is trying out different things each time I replay, refine my method's etc. but this one is so simplified that there really is not much choice in what you do so there isn't much point in playing it more than once.

Glad to see you liked Foundation, Mack. I've been playing the game since it first hit early access and, for a small team, it has come on in leaps and bounds. I remember the game very bare bones. Haven't had a chance to play for a while and I must say the UI has really had a polish. Must get back to it.
I must say too, the community on the discord has always been super friendly.

Hey thanks Mack, I've been looking for a more laid back city builder so I'll definitely be checking this one out!

I only want to emphasize the "organic" growth that this game offers, in the sense that you zone residential areas and the houses spawn in a random rotation, creating so a very gridless experience. It honestly looks pretty cool to look at, after playing so many grid based city builders.

I have had this game for a while and loved it. I do wish it had an option to fight other places. That sounds fun with this game! Banished is one you do the same thing but it seems a bit harder due to the weather and trying to survive the elements... I think I like it more. Found your review on that game as well and as always, spot on review!

Very fair and accurate review!

The gridless format and absence of road-building and housing building were big selling points for me. I really like the way those aspects result in a more natural and inviting looking town.

I've been playing Foundation for a while, and I really like it for what it is. I do wish some of the new snazzy combat/survival focused city builders would adopt the gridless format, natural roads/pathing, and more organic-looking and varied housing.

Thank you for the review, I did not finish the video as you had explained by the 2:00 minute mark this is a game I would not like to play. You have saved my money for something better.

Played this last year and had a lot of fun. It would definitely benefit from some sort of dangers like at least wild animals, and then also actually war

Grow: Song of the Evertree is another chill game with town management. There's a grid, but snapping can be turned off. Bit more running around than a typical city builder though. Sorta like Stardew Valley had a 3-way love child with My Time at Portia & Slime Rancher, minus any combat...

This looks like a good game to relax with a podcast on in the background. Enough to keep you entertained without requiring undivided attention.

I guess another city builder can not hurt.

It looks a bit dull.
Maybe they can spice up things some more in full release, I'll try to remember to give it a gander when it comes out.
Cheers Mack

Thanks for this review! Currently looking for a cozy city builder, and Foundation looked pretty good, but it was good to hear in your review about how slow the building process is because of the lazy builders :') Still looking into this game and deciding if I want to get this game or Fabledom
